I have had that same thought many times .

It never ceases to amaze how many tourists have no awareness about anything other than their deep need to pose and preen. Their need overides anyone else around. They barge in front of people who are already posed or go into that strange trance where they are at one with the horse and everyone has to wait. It's when they disregard little kids and spoil their chances that makes me most cross. People are so very self centred and these snippets of Guard watching makes me begin to dislike the human race.

When I travel abroad, I am always respectful to the different culture and people around me! That is just engrained in me since I am that way in everyday life!

I went to the UK and Europe as a kid in the early 70s. Very few photos featured me and or my parents. Most were pf what we were seeing. Just like the changing pf the guards and tge TOC which we were there for in June. Spent a lot of time there in the 90s. Some photos of friends etc in front of places or if we were somewhere like a pub, etc But nothing like this. I don't remember all these people going up and petting the horses. Having grown up with horses here in Texas and living in Ft Worth where our sheriff's, police are mounted in the DT area and at the Stockyards, you just don't do this.

you cannot fence off on the pavement as it belongs to the council (sadly) and the military complex is beyond the large railings, IMHO would be to stop this from happening full stop tourists are full of their own self importance and priviledge, what these horses and guards have to put up with on a daily basis is disgusting........

It's easy to say "fence off the tourists" as Horse Guards Parade is the official entrance to both St James's and Buckingham Palaces. with access required as such. It's also the official entrance to the Horse Guards HQ and Museum. Plus the area in front of the Horses needs to be clear in case a horse gets spooked and moves violently around as its rider attempts to calm it down. A fence would be far more dangerous for all persons around than a fence limiting its movements. People can be moved far more quickly, out of harm's way of a frightened horse. Don't forget, the display of Guards and their horses has been going on for many decades, but it is the attitudes, moronic behaviour, ignorance and lack of even the most basic checks by modern day Tourists, of what they can do and / or cannot to do, when visiting London that makes for the scenes we are seeing in these videos. Of course, if British Tourists carried on in the same identical ways in these Tourists home countries, there'd be an outcry, yet foreign tourists have the mentality they can do as they damn well please!

3:53 it is getting too crowded in front and around that horse. Time for some folks, who have been standing a while, to clear off! They don't need to be that close and crowded to get their self idolization photo. The bike girl was starting to make me cross with how long she stood there, in front of the horse, holding everyone else up from getting their vanity shots. I know I will not go to this scene if I ever get the chance to go to the UK. I would much rather go to a local pub, or a few, and just talk to people. I don't drink alcohol anymore, but there are soft drinks available. The most important and best way to get to know an area and what places are the BEST to go see (not the tourist traps), the local folks know what the best parts of their country are to see. The King's Guard and the horse handled the large number of people surrounding and crowding so well. Thank You all for your service to your country!

They are not alone. The _real_ guards are armed policemen, some of them carrying automatic weapons, as you can see at 7:14. This is not to say that the mounted guards are not _real._ They are real soldiers, but their job here is as honor guards.

This is my favorite guard and horse. They're both kind and well suited for each other.

Seems like half these folks think they’ve arrived at a petting zoo, while the other half think it’s an exhibit from Mme. Tussaud’s.

The thing that these tourists consistently and repeatedly forget is that these Royal Guardsmen are actual highly trained military personnel, they have been highly trained in the use of deadly force, they have also been highly trained in unarmed combat too, so I wouldn't mess with them if I were a tourist, I'd show them way more respect.

I can't grasp the bald arrogance of just strutting up and laying your hands on another man's Horse without Any permission. Not even looking at the soldier! Where I grew up such rude misbehavior would bring on a severe difficulty.

One tourist commented that the swords wouldn't be sharp. Surely that would not be true? If true the swords would only be for show and useless?

Our Kings horses are some of the best horses in the world but they’re highly trained to put up with nonsense, cars, buses etc, just as police horses are trained in things like protests, riots, attacks etc ❤

These cops have no authority in their voices and seem to be afraid of telling these tourists off when they are doing wrong.

There should be a queue and people should wait to move forward to get a picture. That way the horse and the guard are not ambushed from all sides. Also, people can get a nice picture without strangers in it.
