I must admit, even though you explain this very expertly the process seems very complicated. I will have to watch this several times and make notes! Anyway, thanks one more for your great videos.

Yes, you can use a PC rather than an iPad. You would need a different app. One that's available is OpenText by Michael Bedesem. The lyrics are displayed as text files on the T4. The display is connected to the T4's VGA port.

1. The cable is a standard midi to USB cable. The USB end is connected to Apple's camera connection converter, which is simply a USB to Apple 30-pin connector. 2. My iPad holder is from GigEasy -- highly recommended. 3. To mount the GigEasy, I use their gooseneck mount with a suction cup. It works well for me, but only because I have the suction cup on a glass coaster which I've taped to the Tyros 4. The suction cup works ONLY on glass -- anything else, and it will fall off within 15 minutes.

The stand is an EasyGig. See the description for the company's website. Yes, SongBook supports comments in PDF files. But I chose SongBook for the ability for my keyboard to call up sheet music on my iPad. Any other features are a bonues.

Fred. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Another question. When you call up a registration, can the midi file also be included to appear in the song box on the main screen? The next step for me is to buy an Ipad stand and a foot pedal.

I think I have to call it quits. I have been trying to set up the midi file, setting up individual song files, scanning music, etc for three weeks (night and day). Nothing seems to work with the song creator 1-16 set up. Thanks anyway.

When you ask the same questions as others, Keith, you get the same answer. I started with a template, which you can download from Box.net, as I've put the link in the video comments section. Then I change the parameters using Song Creator on the keyboard.

It's a standard USB printer cable. The printer end goes in the USB To Host port, and the other end goes in the camera connector kit. Make sure your midi in is set to Midi A/USB.

Dan, Go to 3:50 of the video where I say "What you need to do is create a midi file ...". You have to create this file on your own, either on your PC, or in Song Creator. I have uploaded the Amazing Grace.mid file to Box.Net, and put the link in the Video Comments Use it as a template for all your other files.

The problem sees to be that when everything has been done, and you go to "song creator/ I-16 on the tyros to chec the midi parimeters as you do near the end on the video, they are there..not so with me..You didn't explain how you got them there..I can see no way to add them..I guess I am missing something even after watching the video numers of times..Hope you can help; Thanks, Dan

Yes, you must create a separate midi file for each song. What you name the file is immaterial.

Hi Fred, thank you for the great video!!!!!!! Could you tell me: would this setup work if you don´t work with Midifiles? I mean, is it possible to set a program change number for each Registration of a song, that if you select the Registration, it will change the PDF on the iPad (without playing a midifile!). No. You have to use a midi file as it's the only thing that will send data out the port. When I have an actual song file that I use, I modify it to include the appropriate control commands.

You need to do a better job of specifying what you want to do. Midi files (as far as Yamaha is concerned) do not have text, they have lyrics. If you have such a midi file, you can display the lyrics on the keyboard's screen, and then also to an external monitor if it's connected. If you have a text file (typically created by Notepad), you can get it displayed the same way. Just press the lyrics/text button appropriately. This is what I do. If you want text displayed on your iPad, just create a PDF file of it. Then follow my instructions. The files don't have to be real sheet music -- SongBook will handle any PDF file.

The iPad supports bluetooth, but the Tyros does not. So I don't believe you can do this wirelessly with this configuration.

When I open your midi file on Tyros 3 I only see the Prog line not the ctrl lines.

You need to set the filter so the other lines are displayed. Filter (H button)>All On (H button)>Exit.

Fred, I have set up the midi file and a midi file for each song. No matter which song I select, SongBook on the Ipad only brings up The sheet music for the first song that I have entered. Please help

Peggy Falahee The Song numbers must be unique, remember that the number in the midi file, and the number in SongBook, will differ by one, as shown in the video.

Fred. If SongBook+ only goes up to number 127, how can you set up all the rest of your song/midi files?

That’s why you have three bytes to specify the number. The MSB and LSB can also go from 0 to 127, giving you 127x127x127 possible numbers.

You connect the port you told the keyboard you were going to use. You could also use the USB port. See 3:40 of the video.

Hi Fred. When I open Song Creator on my Yamaha keyboard, I don’t see the 100, 2 or 4. How can I create this? I know you previously said to turn the filter off by selecting Song Creator - 1-16 - Filter - all on. Should all the boxes in filter be checked or left blank? I have tried both ways and the info in 1-16 still doesn’t appear. Please help.

Peggy Falahee You need a midi file. Read the video comments for a link to the one I was using. The filter needs to be set to All on. I numbered my files sequentially from 001 up.

Hi Fred, I really like your video. I mostly use the music finder database. But this way I have to load the reg and manully load pdf file. I have tried your way many times but got stuck at the part 4:40. I have a yamaha psr s950, whenever I insert the row with "Crtl", it will disappear after I move to next row. Is this the setting in my S950, or I have to have tyros????. Thanks

Vinh Buidoi It works just as well on a PSR as a Tyros. Remember, you also need the MSB and LSB commands. Why not use the template in my Box account (link in comments). Then you have the commands, and have only to modify them. If you still want to create the midi yourself, you may need to adjust the filtering: in the 1-16 screen, press the filter button, and turn all on.

Is the commentary what you are saying in the video. If so I have watched this video one hundred times and I thought I was setting up the midi file correctly. The video doesnt give much info on starting the file.

By following the comments, i still do not know how to go to the midi link that you are using. I set up a midi file by going to FUNCTION, MIDI, NAME, OK and SAVE. In the transmit section, I set up the songchannel to 1 and set all of the others to off. I also have the filter set to ALL ON. Is this the correct way to set up a midi file, because my 1-16 screen still does not show the correct information.

Tried to follow this but lost it after setting up the one time midi file. Next step said make midi file for each registration but did not show how to do this so cannot do the next step in song creator. I know this is a really old post but would be very grateful if somebody can explain how to make the midi files for each registration.

Each midi file has to have a different number. It doesn’t matter what the number is, as long it matches what you tell Songbook.

No, you don't have to record each song as a midi.

After listening to this extremely complicated instructions, I think I'll just use my paper sheet music.... then press T while holding a file open then press category setting followed by pressing the left pedal while holding down the C key.... blah, blah, blah, blah.... and after only 45 minutes you have then one piece of sheet of music you wanted ... see easy, right?

You need to turn off the filter. Song Creator>1-16>Filter>All On.

I don't use the connection this way, because I don't see the application. So I would be the last person to do a video on this. There is a Yahoo group for SongBook+ which has discussed this subject, so joining the group may be your best bet.

Complicated and unnecessary what's wrong with a book?. I have 1000s of sheet books it would take 15min to scan and organise each sheet , So for 1000 pages it would take 250 hours .

Hi mc007, we all love books, but here's a fast scanner that will scan an entire sheet of music in about 2 seconds (and even save to searchable pdf files via OCR): Epson FastFoto FF-640. Separate the sheets (or remove the cirlox binder, if it's a Berklee "Real Book" type of binding), and feed 100 sheets into the Epson sheet feeder (or however many it can take depending upon the thickness of the paper), and voila! Your 1000 page Fake Book will be scanned to your hard drive in about 3-4 hours, stored in the exact order you fed the pages.

To much for one song.
