The bus pass is just about cost tier. 13-65 costs the “adult” charge for a bus pass while 12 and under is “children” and 65+ is “senior”, which both would cost less than the standard “adult” pass. You are in fact not a legal adult in Canada until you are 18.

This. I guess a bit disappointing that Sophie was not understanding that the parent/child dynamic is different in other cultures but at the same time not surprising considering that until recently, there wasn't been much diversity in media and white people just think about the world from their POV.

12:00 to 12:25 As a 30 year old male, I will say 2 things. 1. It isn't (or shouldn't be considered) oversharing. 2. I agree wholeheartedly, there's no reason for menstruation to be taboo. It's one of the reasons I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and hope society can stop tip-toeing around the subject.

Isn't it only considered taboo for the same reason sex is considered taboo? Like, you're not supposed to openly discuss things relating to your junk? Like... guys don't talk about getting random erections in front of women. Once, a female friend told me off for telling her some other girl has a nice ass.

There's a time and a place for everything. 2. It depends on context. 3. Depends on how comfortable you and the person you are with are with each other. 4. I'm a believer that sex shouldn't be taboo. 5. Sex and Menstruation are two very different categories.

"Officially a grown-up, at least according to the Toronto Transit Commission." All that means is she's old enough to ride public transit in Toronto unaccompanied. But it does go hand-in-hand with that mindset that everyone has at 13 -- you know how when you're that age, you feel like you can take on the world and you're finally starting to get life down. And then you find out you're wrong. Hahaha.

TBH With what Ming said in the bamboo forest it sounds like her mother was very stern and cold to me? Like it's possible that Ming never heard a single compliment from her mother in her life, because as we see how the mother treats Jin and tells Lily to keep quiet all the time, it's possible that no matter how good Ming did, her mother was never satisfied, so her experience was likely very different from Mei's. Someone elses comment on another video I remember seeing said that Ming learned the wrong lesson from how her mother raised her. Instead of learning "I was hurt by having all this pressure put on me to be perfect, so I wont do that to my daughter" she learned "I will make sure my daughter is perfect so that it wont happen to her". Also Ming seems to have ended up on the complete opposite end of the spectrum from her mother in terms of the way she puts pressure on Mei. By always praising her whenever she did good, but always criticizing her friends and the things she likes, and then never letting Mei take accountability for the things she does wrong thinking shes defending her daughter/trusting her, shes actually damaging her. So like, in trying to be a BETTER parent, she ironically ended up being just as bad as her mother, but in a different way. I loved Ming in this movie because she was realistic. Like you get mad at her for how she treated Mei and her friends, but you also see how much she really does truly love her daughter, she's just a flawed person trying to do better than her mother did and fucking up. Also, intergenerational trauma seems like it might be a popular topic in media for a while since Encanto and Turning Red are doing so well.

No. Get out of here with your “#relatable” crap. I seldom even think of the stupid virus because I never obsessed over it. I’m not ruled by fear. I had the shit, too, so don’t think I’m claiming it doesn’t exist. Like half my friends and family ended up with it at some point as well. And guess what? The general consensus is that it wasn’t nearly as bad as its exaggerated reputation. You’re not traumatized by covid-you’re traumatized by propaganda and abusive government entities. (Go ahead, call me whatever dumb shit you want. I’m sure someone’s gonna think they know everything and try to come at me. Whatever. I’ve heard it all before, and I haven’t heard anything original in at least half a dozen years. Calling me a buzzword doesn’t make my words less valid-all it does is provide a convenient excuse to dismiss whatever you don’t like.) All that aside, putting your lips on a random object when you don’t know where it’s been is a great way to pick up god knows what. I’ve known that since I was a young child, more than two decades before the covid hysteria. It’s common sense, really. There are a hell of a lot of things out there that make covid-19 look like the overblown, overplayed joke of a disease that it truly is, deep down beneath all the doomsaying crap and falsified numbers. (Why bother recording unrelated crap like fatal car accidents as covid deaths if it’s so catastrophically destructive? Even the friggin’ corrupt-ass CDC admitted to doing shit like that, as I recall. Why continue to boast large numbers while simultaneously trying to convince everyone that everything will be perfectly fine with “miraculous” vaccines? That’s completely counterintuitive. C’mon. It really doesn’t take a tinfoil hat to just stop and think.) Feel free to read up on the various germs, diseases, and illnesses out there, and learn the true meaning of fear.

Also, it’s a real shame this wasn’t released in theaters. This was the third time a Pixar film skipped theaters and instead released on streaming, along with Soul and Luca. I can confirm that's how we walk when we're trying not to move too much to prevent...an "accident". "Prevent any accidents." Curling up in the fetal position because it hurts. You can even make a case for the extreme emotions thing, cause a lot of us can attest that extreme emotions tend to make it...worse, let's say. And the friends neutralizing the panda? 2:24 I assure you, the answer is *no.* Even in ancien Sparta, adulthood was at 15... Adult at 18. I think it's because most stuff here don't have a _Teenage price,_ it's often: kid and adult, maybe senior and newborn. She's past 12, she doesn't fit the kid category, she pays full price as an "adult". Maybe I overthought it... Great video as usual by the way!

Okay, but Mei obviously was scared to tell her mom the truth. She didn't really betray her friends, in my eyes, she just didn't know HOW to tell her mother what really happened. So I personally feel sorry for Mei, because we can all say that sometimes, talking to your parents can be a terrifying thing. Plus, she's only 13, she's going through many issues. I can understand why people (and Abby, Priya, and Miriam) were upset with her, however. If someone must argue, please do so respectfully, this is an opinion after all

"Going to the Concert as girls, and coming out women." The movie actually shows you the answer at 19:41 in your reaction. Mei imagines how things will go. They plan to get noticed by the 4-town guys, the guys will then propose. So the friends enter as girls, and exit as married women. This is why they needed the $200 VIP tickets to be near the stage. Hard to get noticed up in the stands. Sadly, I only figured this out a day ago. I'd taken it for a joke up until the light bulb went off.

I don’t think it’s that exactly. The common schoolgirl fantasy of “my celebrity crush will fall in love with me at first sight” is certainly part of it but really it’s more about the concert being a coming of age milestone event, the first real non-kid thing they’re doing together. Not that they TRULY think they are going to walk out of the concert married lol

Tiger parenting is the reason why Mei Mei couldn't talk to her mom about her true self.. Ming is a tiger mother like the grandma, She would transform into tiger whenever you try to arguing their decision.. She would shout you out loud with her mighty roar and if it's not enough she would slap you with her paws.. That is why when Mei Mei finally tell her mom the truth, Her mom Ming simply won't accept it and shout her mighty roar.. They keeps arguing until her mom Ming try to physically scratch her daughter Mei Mei.. At that point Mei Mei didn't have any choice except make her mom unconscious with her headbutt.. All Tiger mothers are stubbron, ferocious, strict and always thought they are right because they have more experience and saw more things even before their kids born.. I'm glad Pixar make the message about tiger parenting is wrong so subtle and didn't try to make it obvious by showing us her mom Ming shout her and abuse her at home.. Because if they make it obvious, all tiger parents would be ignorant and thought Pixar just exaggerating the tiger parenting effects for kids while in real life they basically do the same thing to their kids We need this film to help us explain why Tiger Parenting is wrong because in real life kids can't do much against Tiger Mother, We can't protect ourselves by turning into red panda, we can't headbutt our tiger mother so hard to make her unconscious after she slapped us really hard..

Well as a cishet, white male from Norway I can't pretend to know what it's like to grow up as a Chinese-Canadian girl, but I do know what it was like to be a teenager in the early 2000's, and to have a close-knit friend group, as well as parents who are loving, but don't always understand. This movie really brought me back and reminded me to appreciate the experiences I had during that time.

@@tehdipstick but you do relate to some aspects of the movie, but there are other males who said they didn’t like the movie because they can’t relate to a 13 year old girl. Some males are just looking at the gender aspect rather than looking past that and just enjoying the movie. My own father, a 51 year old Latino man, enjoyed the movie. He wasn’t looking at it in a way to find a way to relate to it, he just wanted to watch it for a good time with the family

The comments of them "becoming women" after going to the concert is just them being overdramatic teens that sees these new experiences as a "milestone" for them finally becoming grown-ups. I think it's weird when people sexualize that line in the movie, when if the characters were 13yo boys who will "become men" after going to see their fave band, people would quickly get it's just them being clueless kids. I guess that saying someone is "becoming a woman" has much more sexual connotations in society than saying a boy is "becoming a man". Other than that, great react, I really really loved this movie, and its great to see other people are enjoying it as much too!
