Never could get past the level where you surf if I'm remembering correctly. Played this way back in the day as a kid

To be fair, the surf physics are pretty wonky, even I don't have 100% control over them still.

It's not too bad once you have the muscle memory for it. Once you play it enough, you'll see the pattern of the movements you have to do.
