I saw a guy at the park picking up real ones where he found them and then deliberately putting up fakes in their place. It was weird because on his lanyard he had all real ones, but he didn't trade those, only put up fakes in exchange for the real deal. Seemed to be creating a real stash this way for himself. Pretty darn cheeky!

Oh nooo yea unfortunately it’s common to see people who purposely leave scrappers 😣 thankfully some CMs now will at least ask for a good pin aka a real one

I appreciate this video! Pin trading in the parks can be hard once you learn about scrappers and fake pins in general. Because it's all about trading fairly. Cast members typically aren't allowed to say no to trades so that makes it hard to keep fake pins out of the pin boards. But luckily, lately I've been hearing more and more about cast members saying no to unfair trades with scrappers. Of course, some people enjoy trading regardless of scrappers, and that's totally fine. But it's still a matter of fairness. Some cast members like the one you met here, hide their good pins until they see that you're a nice guest and have real pins to trade. Because some guests unfortunately have bad intentions. They *only* want to give up the pins they *know* are fake.

Hi! Apologies for my late response! I appreciate the Castmembers who are more picky with trivia pins esp if a guest is trying to give a scrapper for it. I believe in good pin karma !!😁

Thank you so much for this! Great way to remember. To be honest, I was really into checking all of the pin boards when the park opened back up, but it got so discouraging with all the boo-boos everywhere, and now I hardly ever do it anymore. But watching you be so persistent and thorough, it makes me want to start trying again! You found a few good pins!

Hey I have a question. I'm New to pin trading and never done it before. We are heading over to Disneyland from the uk first week of October. Will Disneyland Paris pins be perfect for the private traders

It's a shame that the park boards are all full of those very basic/plain looking (most likely scrappers too) pins. Not sure what Disney can do about it though. I was in DLP in Nov and while pin trading isn't as big there, the cast member lanyards were full of nicer/prettier pins to choose from and the CMs working at the one big pinboard there actually check every pin and refuse to accept fakes.

Hi! I heard about Paris pin trading and I def want to visit there one day! And yes it’s very discouraging to see scrappers and booboos on the boards esp for those who just got into pin trading! Hopefully the parks get more strict in regards to knowing what the fakes look like

Hi! I use pinpics to see what the original pin looks like so I can compare the colors, enamel, etc! I know they updated the site so idk if it’s the same way to search the pin but for example if you search for a hidden Mickey I type “hidden Mickey 2024 _____(character name)” hope this helps!

According to several Disney employees scrappers are still real authentic Disney pins they were just ones that were made from a mold that was getting too old.

Not hard to believe. I think scrapper pins are legit made pins that havent pass the quality check for whatever reasons. I really doubt there are people out there that go through the process of making "fake" yet very near identical moulds of hundreds of disney pins just to scam the collectors. If I stumble on a scrapper pin I like, I'll take it because I like it, simple as that. If I get the "real" one, I'll just call the scrapper a variant version :p

A pin is a pin. If you like it then get it. Disney isn't the only company that makes pins. I also have sports team pins and Disney pins from the Disney family museum in SF that aren't considered real. Some of my favorites are "fakes" because they were never sold in Disney and I'm the only one who will have them in the park.

@@TheJcrispell40You're right. However, I think it's more just about trading what's fair. I have a few pins that I know are fake but I like them enough to keep. It's not fair to the cast members OR guest who *do* have good pins, or very valuable pins and someone trades the wimpiest, fakest pin in return. But like I said, some people enjoy the fake pins and that's still ok.
