Dismantling a $200 junkyard Barra engine - Project NOMANG Ep15 | fullBOOST

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It’s been close to two years since we launched project NOMANG, a Ford Barra powered Holden Commodore street car. Well as you might be aware a lot has changed in the world since then and living in Melbourne Australia has certainly been challenging in terms of moving forward with our build timeline. We did intend on showing more track based episodes, but rather than have the car sit in the corner patiently waiting to race, we’ve decided it’s overhaul time so in the coming episodes we will cover a new engine, transmission, turbocharger and fuel system upgrades.

I would say with evidence that the crank is flexing as it is with the standard caps, check the crank for straightness, do the caps, do a 360 thrust bearing upgrade too, if the crank is FUBAR, do the crank, and future proof it, and this would help with harmonics a little bit too. Cnc the head, stage 1 equivalent, double springs, atomic chain setup and guide bolt, billet pump gears. You want to set this up to have long lasting trust in it, IMHO. Good luck guys.

Go a different way to everybody else - instead of throwing 35-40 psi of boost at it, run high static compression and less boost pressure with the smallest turbo you can get away with for like 900 flywheel horsepower, but a super thick and fat torque curve right through the rev range.

Stay with a factory crank and main cap set up , do piston and rods, use a bigger pin, use arp 2000 main cap studs , and bolts for rods . Arp 625 or equivalent head studs , keep it standard size . Do a fire ring head gasket set up , and grout fill block to Welsh plug . Do all the common mods etc oil pump, chain and the rest . 208 intake and exhaust cams. Throw in a mid sized turbo example PTE 7685 gen2 and your good for 1200rwhp max at around high 30s psi region. In a car like the commodore which would be about 350kg less heavier then the Ford's the Barra came in, I guess you would be looking at low 8s.

For the algorithm 👌 Secondly, would be interesting to see a ZF8HP75 behind a Barra. Even the GS7D36SG DCT.
