Dishwasher - no lights, no power to controls or buttons

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I woke up to my dishwasher being full of water and the control panel seemed dead - no power at all. The fix was pretty easy - took 15 minutes and a trip to the appliance parts store.
**UPDATE**
That black stuff on the wires was the melting insulation from the door - NOT electrical tape. The control panel wires had been overheating either from a poor soldering job at the factory or perhaps the water circulation motor was getting hung up due to a bad food chopper. So I replaced the control board and the chopper and so far so good. This is almost 100% why the fuse blew.

    I had no lights or power on my KitchenAid. Did some KZread research (including this video) and ordered a thermal fuse from Amazon for 8 dollars. All I did was pulled the leads off the old thermal fuse, and replaced it with the new one. Worked! Didn't use the new wire harness or anything, just replaced the old one. Saved hundreds of dollars on repair technicians, and lots of hassle. Thanks for the video!

    Thank you! We opened up the door panel and saw the wires that were attached to the fuse were all melted and were black. Moved the wire a hair and it sparked. Unplugged dishwasher right away and having to call an appliance repairman. Thank you for your help. FYI, I did notice a slightly different smell to the dishwasher over the last month or so when I ran it. It did smell like something getting too warm/hot but it was a mild smell. I should have picked up on that sooner.

    This happens to me two or three times a year. 1. If yours dishwasher is plugged in to an outlet, unplug the plug completely and then plug it back into the outlet . 2. Then press the START button genlty; I found if you over press the Touch Buttons they will not work. ???? 3. If this does not start the dishwasher then check your circuit breaker in your main power panel. (NOTE: Even if your circuit breaker looks like it did not trip off, still shut it off and then reset it.) ALSO always check to see if the appliances has power first before you start taking it apart!!! That has always worked for me.

    After purchasing a new LG dishwasher and using it about 6 times successfully ,the control panel would not light up at all when touching " power " . ....ie , the machine was useless . LG responded to this news by insisting that the machine was not getting power from my home's electrical grid . LG demanded that I engage an electrician to determine that the machine was getting power before they would do anything about the problem . I did what they demanded and the electrician verified that the dishwasher was getting full power , reliably . It was two more calls to LG before they finally would arrange for a local service person to represent them in solving the problem . The serviceman assumed the problem required the replacement of the whole control module . He appeared 4 days later and replaced the module in c. 5 minutes , which restored the machine to operating condition . What is wrong with this picture ?? ....simply that LG should have sent a repairman to resolve the issue upon my report of the machine's failure to operate , which would have meant having it back in operating condition within a very few days ....instead of some 17 days because LG chose instead to " jerk me around " for as long as possible , instead of taking proper corporate responsibility ....

    It’s probably universal in function but they come in different shapes and sizes. I’d check it against the model number. I also saw on KZread that you can smack the old fuse against the counter to “reset” it. You can also “straight wire” it for a few seconds to make sure it’s the fuse (or check for continuity on the fuse with the multimeter).

    Great video but i have a different issue, my dishwasher has a rotary switch to power it on and select a program. In it's off position it will randomly just power itself on multiple times a day, fortunately it doesnt do a wash by itself as there is a physical button to start the program. I guess i just need to replace the board but hoping there is a simpler fix out here on youtube.

    I don’t know that model I think this will help - I was wrong to call it a fuse but it acts like a fuse. It’s sometimes called a limiter or high limiter I am told by others. So, for you, go the searspartsdirect.com and put in your model number. Then search for your model and start looking at the diagrams. It will definitely be in the door or control panel diagram. I saw there is a thermal fuse for your model but I’m not sure if that’s your problem. Once you have a part number, check eBay. Your fuse part was W11397505

    Curious if you had a power outage that caused the fuse to blow. My dishwasher has lost all power following a storm with power outage a few weeks ago. This seems to be a likely solution.

  • @TallFamilyFilms

    @TallFamilyFilms

    I did not have an outage but this is the cheapest thing to start with. There are other videos on KZread that show how to “reset” the fuse so you could try that for free. Read the comments below near those videos to see other tips on how to do it.

    We had a power outage - My Bosch DW now accepts water but wont heat - the timer works but the system does not do a wash cycle - water just sits there until you hit reset. I'm hoping it's a fuse that effects in this way instead of a total power loss as in this vid.

  • @TallFamilyFilms

    @TallFamilyFilms

    Жыл бұрын

    @@redrock1963 so, many months after I this video, I had the problem you describe. I researched it and in my case it was a burned logic board (the main board where the fuse is located). However, I saw other things that could cause it in my research. One was a jammed chopper the prevents the wash motor from turning and the other is failed wash motor. Since yours is after an outage it might have zapped the motor.

    That’s unfortunate. You could use a multimeter to determine the amperage draw across that link. Clearly, something is drawing a high amount of amperage for it to blow like that. In my case, the logic board itself was deteriorating and causing excess heat. You could look at yours and see if you see any obvious black marks on it.

Sometimes when you’re making a video, there are aspects that seem obvious but it’s not until someone points them out that I realize what is obvious to me is not always obvious to everyone. To answer your questions: There’s only one fuse in my model - but it was pointed out to me that it’s commonly referred to as a fuse, but it’s technically a “high limit”. The parts store where I bought it referred to it as a fuse so it must be common enough that they just know what you need. I believe it was around $30. I do appreciate you taking the time to reply.
