Many of these American men who can't get wives here will go over to the Philippines to get a wife because they feel it is easier and they don't have to put much effort. true story. My Friend who is Filipino married one of them. now divorce. She thought he was ok and a good man but all he did was treat her like a maid and free nanny. Then after the divorce he had the nerve to tell her his friend will take care of her. She was so humiliated. She is doing great now. “I'm a nurse and a special ed teacher!” translation: “I picked jobs that make people think I'm a good person because I'm trusted with vulnerable people.” People tend to forget that a lot of teachers in special education are horrible and just enjoy power. and being in medical care doesn't always mean someone's kind or good natured.

I'm in nursing school currently (and I've worked in healthcare for nearly 15 years as a Medical Assistant) and there are definitely two distinct types of people who become nurses. The first are the kind who are in it because they love patient care and they want to change the healthcare system for the better, and those who want to get into it for the: 1) Money (which is the worst motivation IMHO, because while nurses can make decent money, when you look at the education and physical and mental workload involved, they are actually very much underpaid and overworked) 2) Prestige/Image, especially the part where being a nurse makes you automatically come across as a "good person" And/Or 3) Power, over their patients and over other people like assistive personnel, nursing students, and new grads. There are people in my cohort who my heart honestly breaks for their future patients and coworkers. And these people almost always want to work in, like, the ICU, the ER, the places where patients are the most vulnerable and where they have the most control over their care. It's honestly a little scary, because as long as they can get through nursing school and pass the NCLEX, they are pretty much guaranteed to get a job because of the nursing shortage.

I think it is the exact opposite. She's his _"fillipino wife,"_ But that doesn't count as an *actual* wife. A lot of s3x tourists call their regulars that. In turn a lot of street ladies actually use that to their advantage and pretend while they're there _(much like the scammer ironically)_ Sounds like the daughter actually lives in the states in a boarding school or something because the story says _"When he and his daughter where visiting the Philippines he found out she had cancer"_ and he doesn't call her his _"filipino daughter"_ although it could just be a localisation thing.

I feel so sorry for the wife and the daughter to have a "husband" so disgusting. A story like this hits a little too close to home. My birth father left my mom when she was dying of a brain tumor for another woman. I was only a baby at the time, and he had nothing to do with me either. Meanwhile my aunt stepped in and took over his role, and the stories I heard from her broke my heart. With the brain tumor she couldn't remember why he wasn't there, and kept hoping he would come see her. I have zero sympathy or feel anything for men like this. Even calling him, or this guy a man is giving them too much credit. While still craving the “insta baddies” they find disgusting. 100% he deceived this poor woman in the Philippines to marry him because no woman within 10 miles of him would date him. But when he got tired of her he started to move on to younger things. He didn’t even care about his wife or daughter at all, 5000 sent to a mystery woman and he didn’t even fly down to console his grieving daughter.

This quote is a translation, which is why it feels so awkward, but I stopped and stared back as him as they walked away... I also had young adults cat-call me randomly but at least they're closer to my age, an old man though? Now that makes me shiver in the worse way possible. They’re supposed to do it so their family at home can join them in a few years, but so often they just cheat while they’re away. Even start a family with new women. And because many people from the Philippines don’t really believe in divorce (religious views mainly), everyone involved is just stuck in the situation. It’s shitty as all hell, and this guy’s a great example of that.

This dude reminds me so much of a dumber version of my stepdad that I found some really dark humor through the whole thing. Especially since my mom died from cancer while with him (I was in my 20s) and other similarities. My stepdad will have to be older in life, more senile, before he gets caught out like this... but karma is coming for him too. But look: where ever his daughter his (likely with the mom's side of the family) it's better she's not with him. Speaking from experience. Thanks for covering this one Leo, and I appreciate more than you know seeing the moral outrage. It was oddly comforting, and nice to know I'm not crazy. When I got upset with my stepdad's behavior, people would always excuse my stepdad, or enable him, or just generally show indifference and tell me I was making a big deal out of nothing. It was to the point that I had doubts about my reactions. Feels like I got some of my sanity validated. 💜

19:15 my friend said that when her grandpa died in the hospital post-covid, not during, they only let two people be with him and everyone else watched him die on an iPad from the waiting room. WTF. So, I guess they do make videos of that idk, seems fucked up.

That's not ducked up to be on video-chat while they die, so you can speak with them. But just a one way video sounds ducked

It does seem horrific but I think maybe in the moment, people who have done that badly wanted closure. In a round about way it's similar to people sitting in for an execution for someone who murdered a loved one. I can't imagine I'd ever want to watch anyone die, but then I don't know how I would feel in the moment about it either.
