Thanks! Honestly from what I've seen, I don't think the pupil mechanics have much of an impact

It depends on what you are going after. I played Disgaea 1 when it first came out on the ps2 and im replaying it again and with the pupil system i had Flonne a powerhouse that could heal and deal damage. Using Flonne as an example, with her you make a Cleric so you can teach Flonne more healing spells. With the Cleric you make Mages or Skulls of every element, you level them up to unlock the spells you want and then have the Cleric learn them. Once the Cleric learns them you then have Flonne learn it from the Cleric. You can do the same with the rest of the characters. It all depends what you want the characters to be and the skills to have.

Nope you can start this at any point in the game. However the deeper in the story you go the higher the enemies thus more gains
