Sure, the triple option is an effective offense for undersized OL, & limited skill QB’s. However, because of the undersized OL, Paul Johnson, & then Ken Niamatololo, (especially him) utilized the ‘Cut blocking’ technique so his OL could find a way to try to block much larger DL. It’s dangerous, and should be banned. Navy in particular has been guilty of injuring opposing DL with this tactic, & it’s a shitty way to conduct business. I have as much respect as anyone from the Service Academies, and thank them for their service. And I know I’ll get a lot of blowback…’ That’s not true! It doesn’t happen’ but it’s a well known fact.

@@Willie_McBride fair enough. As a Service Academy fan and graduate it pains me to hear there is a reputation of shady tactics with cut blocks. With that logic though, wouldn’t it be fair to ban tackles where players launch themselves at players lower body? I also think cut blocking was more about angles as slot backs often used the tactic. I appreciate you listening and this conversation. God bless you!

@@HardwarePod I believe it is a penalty for a would be tackler to launch himself at the lower body of a ball carrier. And I hate talking smack about the service academies, as I said I have a ton of respect for them. But as a Notre Dame fan, back in the early-mid 2000’s it SEEMED like there was a stretch of 5 or 6 years straight that ND DL were getting injured playing against Navy due to that style of OL blocking. My memory may be inflating the amount of injuries. It could have been 2 or 3 years, but then the fear of it happening was present all the time.
