Thank you so much for this concise and clear instruction. I had been trying to pull the red handled release, but for obvious reasons it didn't do anything. Pulled so hard broke the handle off. Only problem now is to fix the EPB module so that it doesn't first scream and then blocks. Thank you

How do take off the cup holders? Just by upwards hard? Or is there some screws?

Hi Steve I don't understand English well, but I seem to have understood that to complete the unlocking you need to pull the part with the red fabric tape, you have to pull that wire up too, right? I have a sport from 2012 that got stuck to me, I pulled the red strap and this steel wire is still stuck I hadn't really noticed, in fact to retrieve the car with the rescue wagon they had to put the skates under the wheels.

The plastic red handle pulls a small cable. That will put the vehicle into neutral. You then unscrew the cover, to see the loop of wire. pulling this releases the handbrake.

Seems the PoS Discovery 5 doesnt even have this. Mine was stuck and unable to be towed. Now on its way to 2nd hand dealer to get flogged in favour of a real 4x4

Discovery 5 the neutral release is under the engine cover on the engine. You can release the handbrake with your foot on the brake & ignition on. If the caliper motors or wiring have failed the motors have to be removed & wound back manually with a big hex socket.

@@stevenorman1915my vehicle was completely dead. I don’t normally carry a big hex socket. And - imagine if the vehicle happened to be in water???

When you pull the cable to release the handbrake it destroys the accentuator which then costs nearly a £grand to have fixed!! I know this as the Land Rover Assist sent someone out to do it, luckily he wasn’t strong enough to do it and when I told the dealer they said it’s a good job he didn’t do it! Don’t need the handbrake anyway but it will fail the MOT without one.

Why do you think it would destroy the actuator? The cable just pulls a mechanical pawl to manually release the cables. When the switch is then pulled up twice, the handbrake motor re-latches the cables. I have released many cables on both Discovery 3 & 4 without incident.

@@stevenorman1915 HI Steve, my LR Disco 4 2013 model EPB has jammed. I've tried this method to release it but it's not working. I can't even drive it to the garage for the mechanics to take a look at it. Any suggestions? Why does this EPB come on?

Just shows you how much LR dealerships know about their product. Pulling the cable doesn't break anything.
