Discovering the Suppliers Behind the Biver Brand - Episode IV

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

At first seemed impossible, the challenge of installing a new brand in high-end watchmaking and delivering an exceptional timepiece in just 12 months, resulted in a big success.
Several months of work, extremely short terms if we're talking about the watchmaking process, constant pressure, and unbeatable desire to excel and make people awe helped to create a watch that's beautiful not only on the outside but also from the inside.
In this 4th, and last, episode of our Biver Saga, we decided to talk to the invisible warriors of the horological realm, the people, who made this incredible journey possible: bracelet makers, case makers, jewelers, and movement makers. They told us their side of the story which is also full of passion and dedication to their crafts.
As JC Biver himself stated, you can like the final result, or not, but one thing is certain. Suppliers are the key people when you have such a huge task in front of you.
So, our Bravo! to the whole team.

Thanks a lot for this report! Really glad to see they achieved their first big goal. Didn't think that they'll make it in time. But we're talking about Mr. Biver and we all know that man can turn things in the right direction in the watch industry 😄 Aesthetics are always a matter of taste but I quite like the neo-classic look that many also hate on e.g. the current Breguet Marine collection. I was VERY curious about how their first pieces will look like! A Minuter Repeater Tourbillon with such a great level to detail in every aspect is a great first step for this emotional passion-driven brand. All the best to them! Best regards from Germany

Great start, but what I am really looking for is what they can do with a 10000 euros watch and a 5000 euros watch. That would be a challenge… one that would resonate with a much-much wider range of watch enthusiasts.

Although I'm not a fan of the aesthetic, and I really clicked on this video with a very cynical view of the brand, I understand now this is simply a journey between a father and son, and I'm sure a common dream for them. The watch appearing on the market with their name is, for them, the success and I think numbers and economic factors are very far down the list of what they feel is important here, especially pour le Papa. I say well done and good luck. Best from Ireland.

I cannot avoid comparing the creation of this incredible team of masters driven by the energy and passion of JCB with the 2.2 Million “virtual” watch you presented last week and smile. This is a work of art and I wish the JCB brand the success they certainly deserve. I want one, where can I buy it? 😁

they are interesting and all but so so expensive. does the world need another super-high-end watch brand like this? It would have been much more interesting if they had looked to the sub 25,000 category. even if I had the money I wouldn't be taking a risk on them, I'd be commissioning my own design from a master watchmaker instead.

Obviously a Watch thought for the super-rich but I see nothing wrong with that. It’s a growing market and JCB has the expertise to succeed there. Aiming at the sub 25k market would have put them in direct competition with many other well established brands. Probably much harder to succeed there. BTW has a price for this watch been revealed?

@@pieterjlansbergen6988 You are not wrong, there does seem to be a market for high end. Prices according to A Blog to Watch are USD 570,000 for the tourbillon in titanium, 625,000 for the 18k gold and 1,325,000 for the diamond version.

No problem. One will find other watches in the 500K+ range. There are different watches out there, for different tastes. The Bivers have created a watch based on a combination of their tastes, for the enhusiasts that share their taste. And some are investors, that just need to see the name 'Biver'. I'm sure they have a list of collectors in line. With these watches, being in a vault 99% of the time, it's more about the craftmanship, internals, finishing, materials, hours put into it in the manufaturing process, and less about 'looking pretty along my dress at a pool party')

I am really sorry but I truly fail to figure the raison d'être of this brand. I really really wanted to be excited and like it, but a) no purpose-meaning-story b) no design language, an amalgamation of various typologies..

@@WATCHESTVcom Sure, I agree but legacy is also too abstract. And legacy of Swiss watch making or JCB's? If JCB's when you have such rich and multidimensional career, it is too difficult to encapsulate it in a single-dimensional product. Anyway, thanks for the interview. Always a pleasure to see you and JCB.

I must be a minority but I don't see the point. It sounds to me that the watches were rushed and trying to be shooting for the stars instead of focusing on simplicity for a first watch. Hope for them they can learn from their mistake and have a long term strategy with a less niche target audience. To me it's too much of everything. Would be curious to know if they met their sales targets...

The point of this is first of all doing a father and son project, together creating a dream watch of theirs. Some have a passion for fishing, these guys got a common passion for colleting, and also creating watches. They are not in it for making a living, having big sales, they never need to work the rest of their life for an income anyway. What they enjoy, there are other watch enthusiasts that also enjoy, at least many enough to keep JCB & son busy for the next few years, from what I understand.
