Discover the Charm of Manistee, MI

The history of Manistee, Michigan, is a long and rich one. The area was first inhabited by the Ojibwe people, who called it "Manistee," meaning "spirit of the woods." In the early 1800s, European settlers began to arrive in the area, drawn by the abundant natural resources. The first sawmill was built in 1841, and soon the town of Manistee was a thriving lumber center. In 1871, a fire destroyed much of the town, but it was rebuilt quickly. By the end of the 19th century, Manistee was a major tourist destination, known for its beautiful scenery, its beaches, and its grand hotels. In the early 20th century, the logging industry declined, but Manistee continued to grow. The city became a major center for the salt industry, and it also developed a thriving tourism industry. Today, Manistee is a charming city with a rich history. It is home to a variety of historical landmarks, including the Ramsdell Theatre, the Manistee County Historical Museum, and the Manistee Lighthouse
