Take a journey with my partner Brody and I as we head out to Shelter Cover, CA located approximately 85 miles southwest of Eureka, CA off of Hwy 101. Shelter Cove is home of one of the best fisheries off of the Redwood Coast when it comes to halibut, salmon, rock fish, code tuna and crab. Shelter Cove is a friendly and tight community of proud residents. There are a number of hotels and restaurants for visitors looking for a peaceful place to spend time. The Cape Mendocino Lighthouse is located down by the marina area. It was relocated for preservation from its original location overlooking Sugar Loaf Island north of Shelter Cove in the Petrolia/Capetown area of Humboldt County.
* Note: The reference to the Punta Gorda Lighthouse location I made at the 11 minute mark is inaccurate... my bad... it's actually located north of Shelter Cove and south of the Mattole River Outlet...
A trek off of Highway 101, Shelter Cove is another great example of the historical communities on the North Coast of Humboldt, California.
