The Opera Park is the name of the new green space in the heart of Copenhagen on South Island between the Opera House and Papirøen. It's designed as a recreational area with room for relaxation and contemplation.
Inspired by 19th-century romantic gardens and landscape paintings, the park offers visitors a chance to experience trees, plants, and flowers from around the world, carefully selected for their seasonal colors and variety. As the seasons change, so does the park's flora, creating a shifting tapestry of scents, colors, and textures depending on where you are in the park.
Comprising six distinct gardens with landscapes inspired by regions worldwide-such as the North American Forest, Danish Oak Forest, Oriental Forest, English Garden, Nordic Forest, and the Tropical Greenhouse-the park's lush ground cover extends onto its terrace levels, featuring wild and blooming grasses.
At the heart of the park sits the organically shaped greenhouse, complete with a café and winter garden. Powered by solar panels on the Opera House's roof, the Mediterranean climate inside the greenhouse hosts a towering 12-meter Ficus Alii tree. Guests can sit beneath its canopy in the café area, enjoying refreshments. The greenhouse also leads down to a two-level underground parking facility with 300 spaces, equipped for future electric vehicle charging.
Both the park and parking facility offer sheltered access to the Opera House, designed with considerations for weather and wind, prioritizing climate resilience and biodiversity.
