i mean it does look nice. it's just that sometimes designers go all-in and buttons become not just round, but they become literal circles (or pills if the circle is long). discord is basically already round _enough_ and it was so for quite a long time, theres no need to change i think

Rounded corners might look good on something like a macbook, but 99% of monitors aren’t round, so why in the world would round window borders for a desktop app be a good idea?

Because how human brains work, there are research that suggest humans are more attentive with rounded corners than sharp corners and eyes have easier time following rounded corners than sharp corners as the result user interfaces are better when they are designed as rounded more attention means more revenue for many companies. It is also easier on your eye so I support this.

there was literally no reason for all of these, but maybe they arent going to change the UI anytime soon, since there isnt a reason for changing it rn. I dont like all of these personally, Concept 4 isnt my favourite out of all

Concept 1: Nice, Simple, Clean. Changes just enough to make it fresh while not making a major redesign Concept 2: Besides the slight mobile discord PTSD of when an unfinished ui change was forced its really really nice. It matches the mobile theme and styling and would love for Discord to roll this out as the new Desktop app. Concept 3: Has anything changed from concept 2? Really cool, should be added as a skin option Concept 4: It looks really fancy, I love the way it indicates which server you are currently in, I like the way it handles server invites but that's where the good ends for me. I have spent a good 10minutes looking for the notifications box, A feature I use quite a lot that has either been removed or burred under a number of sub menus on the mobile app. I already hate the fact i cannot check notifications on my phone, it would be mayhem if that got removed from desktop too. Not to mention the fact that your chat messages have been moved and reactions are a mess. Just no, please no.

Good thing is that all of concept 4's issues are pretty easy to fix so I have hope that it can be expanded and improved

I'm 100% aware this would be more of a nuisance than anything and only apply to a small amount of users, but that thing with client-end messages appearing on the right will probably just make tupperbox/pluralkit users confuse everyone else even more since in screenshots, it won't look like their proxied messages are their own. it already gets annoying explaining I'm not a bot over and over

I hate rounded corners, I overdosed on them.

Facts. Ended up applying a userstyle to youtube that removes all rounded corners from all elements (I mean all of them, even the loading spinner)

I really hope they don’t do unnecessary big changes to UI again. It’s fine right now.

yeah, concept 4 looks cool but it's too big of a change

Concept 1 is current Discord but slightly different for no reason Concept 2 is Mobile on desktop and *kinda* acceptable, although still not needed Concept 3 should be a toggleable option for Concept 2, as they look almost identical other than the transparancy Concept 4 looks awful IMO and I hope they don't do that. Discord is one window, I don't need 47 layers of drop shadows and fake windows in the main window.

With every single redesign, they not only increase the size of the elements, but they also destroy performance. I fucking hate it.

Discord really needs to focus more on security / privacy features like end-to-end encryption of DM's... It has gotten itself so big that most people I know use it to message instead of other methods... and complain if Discord isn't used... which means they also send stuff they shouldn't across discord (you know, PII). It is irresponsible of discord not to add some sort of end-to-end encryption of DM's with it's massive adoption at this point. E2E encryption of video, voice, 2FA authentication... just... better privacy is needed.

I really like the 10/10 design you showed!

I've already had the activity tab for about a week now. it's alright, not really necessary but not bad. I have mixed feeling on how it shows games your friends recently played so if they played multiple games it will make tabs for all of the games they played that day

I quite like the idea of a transparent background, but how would it work on the web page. I was thinking that it would show your wallpaper of your pc for the app, but i guess it just couldnt be possible on the web. Who knows though 🤷

Totally agree with you on the ui redesign concepts, but I do like the randomness of reactions I feel like it just looks cooler and there's probably a way to see them easily in a box the same way you can see who has reacted.

that bookmark page is pretty good if you have alot of spreadsheets or framedata for multiple games and you had to scroll or search alot I know there's pinned messages but bookmarking from several server and viewing it in one single tab is real nice touch

Concept 4 looks nuts, can't wait for a vencord theme of it.

New permission: Pin message to the bottom (or top) of the message space. Very useful for people who ignore regular pins - and there are other uses.

2:18 I'd like to say I have used a computer with a Core 2 Duo T7200, and no dedicated GPU, it can run blurred windows perfectly fine with 0 lag. Moving them is perfectly fine as well. Also an iPhone 4 can blur stuff live fairly smoothly, doubt that this will affect performance.

7:30 I am actually excited for the bookmark feature. I am an active modder and having the ability to bookmark a message where something I tripped over is explained and I might want to reference it again in the future would be amazing. Currently, it often just gets lost in the endless stream of messages and the I have to search again and sift through the findings to find what I'm looking for.

Honestly of you will be able to like drag the chat window out of discord and put it somewhere on top of game you are playing on the concept 4 it would be GREAT imo, since you can't really size down normal discord and it goes away once you click on the game you are playing

This is an issue only idiots have. Most servers are smart and disable adding reactions, and set 1 or 2 reactions for people just to prevent this. Also I’ve never seen people react with slurs on announcements so if you’re somehow seeing it often enough to be a problem, that means you’re likely in toxic communities.

With the last UI, it looks like the activities isn't actually collapsible. It seems to me that it shows three activities then the arrow is to show more (lists activities - 4 but only displays 3)

first impressions of the four concepts: 1. i like it, subtle but clean (i like the compact designs we get periods) 2. i genuinely hate this, who let John Discord cook? I don't want all these bloated rounded buttons everywhere 3. i like it, fits with my existing desktop design 4. why? i dont want another lame social media reskin. the only part i liked about this was the join message fitting in as an ordinary message

the happening tab is basically summaries but for mobile, a menu where you see all AI summaries in all servers you're in

the last concept looks cool as a concept but aint usable at all

Being able to turn things off and extensively change the app for yourself is excellent, and why I really like Bluesky, which gives you the ability to create entirely customized feeds. As long as you get to choose the app's theme, as opposed to no option at all, I'm happy.
