Back when my Dad was alive (he died in 1974) on Fridays after work he would go get groceries, and inevitably he would get either Moon Pies or the 2 lb pack of store brand sandwich cookies (we had a big family), and they both were great for kids who didn't get anything sweet all the time. But sometimes he would bring in a package of Hydrox cookies, and you could definitely taste the difference between those and the store brand cookies. So good.

Growing up in Chicago, I remember Salerno Cookies and Maurice Lenell Cookies. Salerno had a number of varieties, but the three that stand out were the butter cookie, coconut cookie and Jingles. The Jingles cookies were only available around Christmas. They were anise flavored with red and green sugar sprinkles, and were shaped liked bells, stockings and stars. Maurice Lenell also had a variety of cookies, but the one I remember was the pinwheel cookie. Sadly, they are no longer available and that's the way the cookie crumbles.

My Mom would occasionally buy a cookie that was Chocolate covered marshmallow with a drop of raspberry inside. They were shaped like a mini bundt cake. The base was a thin nilla wafer type and they only came about 8 in a package. I want to say they were called Hippodrome cookies. But I may be all wrong. One of the reason so many cookie varieties have gone away is because of (like in other areas) the consolidation of the food industry. Keebler bought Sunshine and Mother's (which bought some of the Burry's brands). Kellogg bought Keebler and later sold the Keebler cookie business to Ferrero (maker of Nutella and Rocher candies). Campbell Soup owns Pepperidge Farm and bought Archway, Lance and Snyder's. Nabisco bought several brands including Stella D'Oro and was combined into Mondelez who also owns Cadbury (except in the USA where the brand is licensed to Hershey)

Keebler's Opera Cremes. Chocolate and Vanilla wafers with 4 or 6 holes in the top, sandwiched with a lemony cream frosting. Gone forever. When Oreo introduced their Lemon line, I managed to make my own version - twist a chocolate Oreo apart, scrape off the white cream, open a lemon Oreo, and put a chocolate wafer on top. No creme came out the little holes, and the lemon wafer is a bit more tart than the Opera Creme, but in a pinch they calmed down the kid in me. And don't get me started on the Dolly Madison raspberry jelly roll cakes of the 1960s-1980s...

My favorite cookie was the "date filled, oatmeal cookie'. I believe the maker was "Mother's" brand". The cookie was soft oatmeal with date filling. Don't know why they were probably discontinued because dates are extremely healthy and oatmeal is also fibre and nutritious. Haven't seen these on the shelves for years. Wish they would return.

I remember the SnackWells devils food cake when I worked EMS. There was one hospital in our region that had a killer EMS room, where we could stock up on snacks during our shift. Nestled among the Bang energy drinks, granola bars and slim Jim’s were the SnackWells; I think I grabbed one every time I went through. I guess I never realized they were gone as I left EMS in late 2021, and only ever ate them on the weewoo wagon

Haven't tried anything from those you mentioned, except Oreos. They weren't imported in my country. There were some similar ones but not amongst my favourites. Fortunately most of the cookies I used to pick as a kid are still around, and in fact I came across a package of butter cookies that I loved, quite recently. I didn't know they still exist!! Another favourite from my youth was soft cookies with chocolate/banana cream filling. But some years ago I tried them (1st try in 15 years) and almost got stomach sick. I guess its me growing old 😂😂 Last favourite I remember was a round metallic box with "premium" cookies of various shapes and toppings that in the 80s-90s most people used to gift when they were invited to another house. Fun fact, 9/10 grandmas in my country use this metallic box to store sewing needles and threads 😂😂
