    Flicking through this was was certainly intriguing! Not heard of this before - I had always thought that the effects I was seeing where manufacturing defaults - will keep an extra vigilant eye out! :)

    Yes its all to do with contamination between the layers can almost look like oil residue as well but it's slowly eating away the data thanks for watching

    Thank heavens, I never expierienced disc rot on any of my CDs/DVDs or blurays. All my discs play fine here in Austria.Customers should bring a law suit against these manufacturers, because they prevent disc backups with copyright laws. In Austria, consumer rights are very strict, if this happens to a wohle charge or load, the producer will be held responsible.

    Your not wrong Michael it's an industry problem you can prolong the life of your collection by keeping them in a good condition and out of direct sunlight and obviously no moisture or freezing conditions This can affect all disc formats I need to check the disc to see if the rot has grown, thanks for watching Michael

    @@bettyhordeclinic6147 That ain't true. I've been keeping my CDR,'s in my car for like forever. I live in New England where it's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. No cd rot whatsoever. I have about 100 in cd folders. No rot at all. I've never experienced cd rot. I've got cds from the early 80's. Dvds in the attic where it's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. All in cases and no cd rot. I think it's more of a manufacturing defect which may cause rot but like I said before I've never experienced it.

    Oh yes the dreaded disc rot. I've had a couple of CDs in my collection that suffered with disc rot. I seem to remember a CD pressing plant somewhere in the North of the UK that would occasionally have issues with disc rot due to a wrong adhesive they were using in the manufacturing process, or something like that anyway, but after a little while they realised the error and corrected it and for a period of time if you sent back a CD suffering disc rot they would send you a replacement. I found the ones that usually have this rot issue were made around the late 80's to early 90's and have the words 'Made in UK by PDO' stamped around the centre hole. They tend to have a particular issue known as bronzing where the disc would rot and go a funny brown/bronze colour.

    Absolutely spot on with the browning in fact its been that many years I have not gone back to my replacement disc to compare how much worse that one has got When these things first came out they said they are indestructible just one layer not done correctly or get contaminated and well like all things I guess won't last forever Thank you for taking the time to watch this and thanks for the great comments have a great day

    First of all, sorry for my terrible English. It is curious, but in Ps2 I have not had these cases. I had a game since 2003, Silent Hill 2. something scratched but functional, I constantly "washed" it in water, I put toothpaste to avoid scratches (nonsense) and I had it near a very intense source of humidity. 18 years later it is functional. without disc rot. Otherwise with an Xbox game, SvC Chaos sealed two years ago and that when opened it had that deterioration from the center. I think that Sony did have better quality control with their discs.

    Your English is fine no problem there. Disc rot really starts at the manufacturing stage and there is known plants that did not make the games well in fact any digital format disc correctly for whatever reason so even sealed games are effected. Like everything they will fail at some point even cartridges will fail eventually. If you look after what you have it should last easily 150 to 200 years so they say, none of us will be around to see this happen. Biggest problem is for collectors the discs that are known for having disc rot all you can do is try to slow the process down and like me repurchase the game and hope for the best I have not looked at the disc again now for a few years so a follow up vid might be due. Your absolutely right with regards to the quality control those who demanded more stringent processes to be followed ended up with the less problems in my experience so far the only disc rot I have found is with original Xbox games but again any digital disc can be affected so music and films do have the same problem. Thank you very much for watching and the fantastic comments you put have a great day

    George Cr something like that is the future when all physical media ends as it won’t last forever. I use emulation myself and have got thousands of games but am also an old fart and I like the feel of physical media lol 😂 If we look after it it’s going to outlast us but I can see people collecting for just the box art Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the comment 👍🏻👍🏻

    I see some disc rot on my Xbox one disc. Can it spread ? It's very little amount . The game runs normally

  • @bettyhordeclinic6147

    @bettyhordeclinic6147

    3 жыл бұрын

    Unfortunately it will spread with time I need to do a follow on vid on this one as I did purchase a second game to replace one with disc rot and already its showing the tell tale signs Your disc will fail at some point because its all to do with contamination of the layers when they made the disc it's almost like rust it's going to spread and you cannot treat it. best advice is keep an eye out for a replacement. Thanks for watching hope you found this vid useful

    Unfortunately a lot of the disc rot problems is down to one factory just not making the disc's right and loads of different games can suffer from this, also not storing the games can cause this I>E too much humidity or heat ect Think you will be fine with the blu ray version but all disc formats can suffer from this Thanks for watching

    @@bettyhordeclinic6147 I once bought Superman for GameCube and that disc had rot all over it. I was lucky to be able to order another used copy from Amazon and that copy was fine. That version of Superman is also on the PS2 its based on the 90's cartoon. Verbatim blu-ray M50 are said to be able to last a 1,000 years. Don't know how true it really is maybe they are coated with something? A lot of photographers are always looking for a really good back. Well good news is Xbox series X and Xbox series S if you go into developer mode and pay I think $20 dollars US you can install Emulators. Modern Vintage Gamer made two videos about this they are really cool check them out.
