    You have a luxury to help you figure out the unlabeled bolts--check your 996 Turbo. Much of the fasteners should be very similar.

    There are some similarities but a lot of differences. Unfortunately Porsche made subtle changes that make working on the 997.1 turbo a giant pain in the butt compared to the 996 turbo

    Hey Matt, That was a narrow escape with the quick jacks. Luckily, neither you or your friend Timothy were hurt in this 'near miss', and equally important, the car itself.......another damaged body shell anyone? 😂😂 Happy to see the engine & gearbox back in the 'new' shell, & looking forward to you getting the ancillaries installed so you can see if the engine starts...... that'll be a BIG moment for us all!

    I also have quick jacks. Make sure when you lift your vehicle the lines stay VERY clear of the jacks themselves while lifting. The last time I lifted my truck one of the lines got pulled under the quick jack (the lines move slightly when the jacks move up) and I didn't notice until the truck was past the first locking point. The jack pinched the hydraulic line completely and the truck was stuck in the air. I had to sketchily use a floor jack on the frame of the truck to take enough pressure off the quick jack to get the line unstuck.

  • @matt13ross

    @matt13ross

    7 ай бұрын

    Luckily the lines were okay. That was my first thought.

  • @plus790
    @plus7907 ай бұрын

    Yeah, the bleeder needs to be able to do it's job, but Quickjacks also are designed to be used at one of their two locking positions. If you have to go in or out from the bottom with an engine or transmission, you never lower the car to the engine/trans, you use a lift to bring parts up into position. By the way, my 987.2 CS is waiting on Quickjacks right now due to an O2 sensor job spiraling out of control. First 3 sensors were cake but the wiring on the 4th pointed right into a valley between a cross-member and the the LCA mount. So...Capristo driver side header off to access the bung. (Thankfully no header bolts snapped.) Exhaust ports are pretty carboned up, and since I just bought a blaster and walnut shell to decarbonize the direct injection intakes, might as well clean the exits too. Oh yeah, and the old header to rear section clamps are a pain, so I've got new single nut ones arriving tomorrow. It's a disease.

    I have done the exact same thing on my quickjacks. Had one of our Macans on 'em to pull the wheels to take for new tires. Didn't catch that I'd left the reservoir valve closed and when lifting, the pump sounded like it was cavitating, so lowered the jacks to see what was going on and the lean began. Those rubber jack point blocks were all twisted and not happy with the lifts being at different altitudes. Realized what I had done wrong and was able to get it lifted and resting on the first catch point. Opened the valve and all was good. I waited until after time using the quickjacks again to do an oil change before I told my wife about my previous buffoonery.🤭

    Just thinking out loud but those two tubes appear to have some paint wear on them, at the end not connected, showing that they were in a bracket of some sort. Is there any possibility that you have the tubes off 180 degrees? Basically the end that you are trying to marry to the existing lines that won’t line up should be connected at the other end, the end you already have connected. Other possibility is that the hose you are trying to connect to is off 180 degrees? Just a stab in the dark. I appreciate your drive to see this thing to the end. A lesser man would have punted this off a long time ago.

    Yeah the jacks need to be in the locked positions to be safe and you can also manually bleed them with the breather port open. When lowering to lock or to floor, keep the port open and just keep holding “Down” for a bit after it’s all the way down so it pumps all the excess fluid and air back to the tank. I do it with mine every time. Also did you address IMS or check for bore scoring before putting that bad boy back in? Any 911 before 09 is susceptible.

    Off tangent, I know, but you brought it up… Crocs with socks - in my humble opinion, that’s pretty much identical to your uncool Dad wearing sandals with socks, back in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and pretty much up to the present day 😬. That’s not to say 60 - 70 year old Europeans don’t still enjoy the humid, fetid air getting stuck between their wonderful toes, and I’ve seen a resurgence in this socked foot in open-toed-footwear, but… BUT… it wasn’t cool. Ever. Never. Guaranteed - HOME AND GARAGE USE EXCEPTED OF COURSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
