kzread.info/dron/kkj8VTmpWTU431qYX4_Svg.htmljoin Welcome back, Ladies and Gentlemen!
This is part two of the 3hp Dirty 3hp Briggs & Stratton engine.
I used this small engine to test the small compressor in my previous restoration. I had a choice between this one and the Honda motor. This had to be split into two parts due to the length of the video and I am also waiting for parts to arrive (the carburetor diaphragm) In the meantime please enjoy part one of the project.
I hope you enjoy the video.
If you have any suggestions for improvement, or compliments share them below!

The valve stem/tappet interface was not measured for clearance. B&S recommends . 004" gap for the intake valve and .006" gap for the exhaust.
Great job. How convenient that it rotates itself for you while it runs. The white and silver is a great color choice.

Oh I see. It looks like an older 3 HP Briggs engine from possibly the 70s or 80s? I remember my dad worked on a few of those in the past. They were all white mostly. I think this is one of your best engine restorations to date. Almost comparable to Machinery Restorer. ADDED: I went back to one of your older videos you did in the past, and you restored a 3 HP Briggs engine in that same white color.
@AJRestoration

This one is a 1981 model. and yes I did a 3hp before but I could not get it running, so I kind of had to redeem myself. The previous attempt had a bad carburetor, and I could for the life of me not get it to run with that carb. I eventually sold it to a collector, and ever since then I had to try one again. I am pretty happy with the result.
Great job. Congratulations!
Good Job👍

I just wanted to say you did a job job on restoring it. It looks good. But I reckon it has the wrong Era Briggs and Stratton stickers

Great work, love watching some quality restoration. I am very new into this and have got a old B&S 3.5hp working for an old mower. Looking to find another for an old Scott Bonnar 45 I want to restore. Any idea where I can find these great motors? I don’t mind getting my hands dirty to get it running. One day it may look as good as your work.
Good ii boss 👍👍😊😊😍😍

Not a torque wrench in sight! Not one bolt torqued to specification as far as I saw! The way it was shaking no doubt something will work loose. Not good for the longevity of this excellent little motor!! A nice paint job and is very clean though.
👍
👍👍👍
Do you sell the restored engines afterwards? If so, what would one like this cost after restoration? Looks amazing!
@AJRestoration
10 ай бұрын
I dont sell any of my restorations, I just hoard everything haha. Sometimes I give things away if someone likes it a lot. I have no idea what something would cost after a restoration. To me its priceless, but to someone else it might be worth less than what it was before the restoration since it removes the patina and what what.
Why didn't you have to gap the points or the coil ? Also why the color change from black to white 🤔 any special reason? I just want to know. You do good work.
@AJRestoration
2 жыл бұрын
In my experience I never had to gap them, I just keep the gap not too small, and not too big, just right. The same with the coil, I had them gapped correctly, and gapped it all the way the largest it could go, and it ran the same, no issues. Since then I never bothered with finnicky gapping specs, In my eyes its a waste of time, especially with small engines such as these.
Beautiful job. Will you continue to use this for your compressor?
@AJRestoration
2 жыл бұрын
That's the plan! Waiting on some compressor parts and Ill maybe make a video on it.
Great looking job! Where do you get the decals from? Is it a printer program that you print them yourself, or do you have a link where you get them from?

I had to remake them from a few sources and had them printed by a local company.

I usually tighten it around 53 in-lb. Its not a critical point so I usually hand tighten and then a little more so it wont come loose with vibrations. The head bolts, conrod bolts and flywheel nut are the critical ones. Those have specific specifications.
I have this exact same engine on a wizard tiller that has been passed down from my great grandfather. It's in need of a restoration but I can't seem to find those replacement decals. Are you making them yourself or were you able to find them somewhere?

@@AJRestoration oh ok. Thanks. Was thinking those sticker looks really smart. I have a 3hp on my 17 inch Professional cylinder mower and I use it every week and time to replace blade and rings on the mower and was thinking of giving it a restoration. I like the 2lt ice cream container😁. Glad I am not the only one using them for oil changes and parts. Great video and Nice stickers.
