Track 2
What can be done when the world has lost its class?
Wrecking ships for love of all things fast
Though culture slows this need for speed avails
So burn the coal and stow the sails
We point to progress with the hope it will distract
from crimes against the wisdom of the past
Now stacks of smoke and ash are casting trails
where the air had once prevailed
So tell me what do we need with the sun
Now we have an electric one?
To melt every shadow away
Turn the night into day
So give a shout of "Fair well!"
Now we know we can build it ourselves
But Oh! We stared so long
We forgot we were human
We stand on shoulders of the giants of before
but unlike them we see beyond the shore
The World's gateway we play a game of chase
on the bit to win the race
What do you need with these vanities and charms
sell your fineries and take arms
and at the front these funds will guarantee
Allied victory!
So tell me what do we need with the sun
Now we have an electric one?
To melt every shadow away
Turn the night into day
So give a shout of "Fair well!"
Now we know we can build it ourselves
But Oh! We stared so long
We forgot we were human
What do we need with the sun (we forgot we were human)
What do we need with the sun (Oh no, we forgot we were human)
What do we need with the sun (we forgot, we forgot we were human)
What do we need with the sun (Oh no)

A little hint for everyone: this song takes place in 1914 on the streets of Southampton, England. It's mostly from the main character's point of view in our musical The Raven Locks.

This is a new sonic experience, and a whole new category Most music is boring - this is not. The level of pure talent and creativity is off the charts for me. Every track leaves my mouth agape. Unbelievable talent, writing, and production. How is it that this band is not at the Grammy's? Can't you imagine this theatrical show taking center stage on such a global stage? And leaving audiences marveling at the sonic and visual experience. Yet it may be like Bach - decades ahead of its time. The Imago Dei shines through every track. I am speechless at the creativity and glory on display.

Idk exactly what this song is about, but my interpretation is that it's about (and I'm sorry uf my interpretation is too surface-level) humanity's desire to make progress in the way of innovation. One day it gets to the point where the sky gets polluted and they can't see the sun. People start thinking they don't need things like the sun, because it doesn't matter. If it exists, we can make it ourselves. It's so prideful it's almost hopeful, but that pride becomes our undoing when we remember that we're only human. We underestimated the sun and just when we thought it was nothing to us, we flew so high we ended up getting burned. But since you said it takes place in Southampton, England 1914, it probably has something to with WW1 and the soldiers who used it as a port. I'm just not sure what the song is about when I think about it from that perspective, so I'm sticking with my interpretation.

They believe they have become the masters of the world, being able to solve any problems with machines. Like every generation, they consider themselves more perceptive, foreseeing and brilliant than previous ones. And there are several lines by someone trying to convince others to donate for military, there is some speech, there are some conservative views in the first part, so I guess (but am far from sure) that there is more than one person singing.

It's rhetorical, I get it, but I can't help but answer why do we use a sun (as a source of energy) when we have an electrical one: solar energy and geothermal energy make up the two major renewable resources on planet Earth, and other forms of energy will be used up or not provide energy at the rate at which we need. We could throw out solar energy in favor of lights to help plants photosynthesize in huge facilities, but that electrical energy is as limited as the power plant providing it, which relies on fossil fuels or nuclear energy which is also limited; power plants can also derive energy from wind and water movement, but the hydrosphere and atmosphere need solar energy to operate: gyres move in respect to temperature and saline content changes, and wind relies on pressure changes which occur from warm and cold front which are affected by the sun. Not to mention the environmental effects of power plants, especially fossil fuel ones but we all know that by now. Also, we could utilize geothermal energy to make electrical lights, a very wise choice, indeed, but it will still result in a form environmental impact, such as releasing sulfuric contents into the ground as well as other toxins involved in the process of using underground water.
