They do, but not only because it's more realistic, but because you can have a very good HDR render from DX11. That means the spots that should be bright will be as bright as they should, while the dark spots will be as dark as they should. In DX9 you can't really have that unless you fake it, which is unrealistic and way more time consuming from the developers' point of view.

I knew the 2kiks video reminded me of something.

Usually DirectX 11 will boost performance. You might see a dip in performance because of the new DX11 specific effects being calculated on your graphics processor though.

The interactive water is, in my opinion, awesome.

12 years later, and AAA games barely function day 1.

Finished the game but planning to play again. Crytek - you are probably one of the only game developer to really listen to gamers. You guys rock, though it should have been done when the game was released. But anyways, great job Crytek. This really IS DirectX 11 in its glory.

I liked the part with the shadows and the reflections .

I just installed this today (2-16-2012) and I cannot tell you guys how much of a difference it made. The game is so much more worth it now. After playing Batman AC and BF3, Crysis was just not the same anymore. So I went searching and found the files I needed and it was well worth it. I use a cracked version so the procedure is a couple steps different but super easy for anyone with some know how. I think I will post a video providing files for the game and patches to help the unfortunate out.

I'm gonna pick this up next week, I had it on the 360 but sold it after I beat it, I just couldn't stand all the frame rate hiccups as that is one of my biggest pet peeves in gaming. I just upgraded my system with a Phenom II X4 955 BE 3.2GHz Quad Core, Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1GB so I'm hoping Crysis 2 will run well. I also have 4GB DDR2 Ram @ 800MHz, 640GB HDD in Raid 0 and Windows 7 Ultimate.

@MattBee2k2 If you get a Maze5 GPU block or Maze4 GPU block it's really easy to make a bracket to bolt it onto the card, the blocks are pretty much universal as long as you get a little creative with mounting them. Then it's just a matter of putting heatsinks on the GPU chipset and RAM chips.

I forgot, is a really nice work!!!

@RedhotIta1 On the singleplayer menu, theres a tab that says "Mods". That means Crysis 2 on PC will be able to get custom maps and mods to make the game even better.

I wish the industry would make hardware cheaper... There's so much potential with all these interactive dynamic features (water ripples, dynamic lighting for shadows, real-time reflections. I'd love to use the shadows to design a horror game; you can implement some amazing storytelling concepts with it.

I have always had a distaste for the tessellated rocks and tire tracks as they appear to be quite unappealing and do not look realistic at all.

@StiansNorskeNyheter - It is indeed. If you want even more, check out Blackfire's Mod 2. It adds in some nice effects with lighting and stuff. Plus it comes with the ShonE Quality Mod which has some nice DoF. And it has the hundreds of improved textures from the MaLDo HD Texture pack. It makes the game a lot better.

Fizzy Salty Lol RTX is not even worth it, $1600 on a card that can't do anything the 1080Ti did, and there are very few games that have Raytracing implemented

Fuck RTX, ray-tracing is a useless waste of money. Screenspace reflections already look really good

@RedhotIta1 The map editor is supposed to come out this summer and the mod sdk is later in the year.

@uzuhl2 Maybe. Do you enable Vsync and force high quality anisoptric filtering in nVidia control panel? I turned those off and pretty much doubled my framerate, it's almost playable at 1440*900, still get dips into the mid 20's though. :(
