The last slaves (illegally) transported to the US were captured and sold by the Dahomey in 1860, 40yrs after this movie was set. The brutality of their capture was demonstrated when the Dahomey made the children carry the heads of their parents.

Yes history is always changing the truth or suppressing it. A teenage girl pitcher struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Greghih. They both said they were not feeling well that day. But the girl was actually sick. That has been very suppressed. In Egypt 2000 year old papers were found about Jesus time on earth, Mary Magaline and Jesus disciples. Jesus thought so much of Mary Magaline that he made her over the disciples. AND she was a s not a prostitute. Won't find that in any southern churches. Presently, there is rampant sexual abuse in the Southern Baptist. Southern religions are not a "go to" when you are in domestic violence. It's a taboo subject since they teach men are to be over women. Can anyone please tell me since the Catholic church had the Bible for awhile and kept it to themselves, how much did it edit it? After all Priest were not to have close relationships with women, they saw them as a source to make them sin. Did this interfere with them being objective. Religion is man made. Inspiration is of God. We know man tends to be destructive ie thrown out of paradise, nuclear bombs, climate change, unnecessary wars, God was so disgusted with the human race during Noah's time that he was going to destroy every human and creature, etc. In my experience how the truth of God and of today's news is painfully hard to find, laws are being made to suppress the truth about the history of the treatment of blacks, etc. I am from the south, so I can only speak of the south. After a life of domestic violence, a loveless life, I chose to believe someone higher than me is of pure true love, wisdom. I didn't grow up in a church so I started with a cleaner slate. When I went looking for God 50 years ago, I witnessed greed, power plays, misinformation, egos and politics. Now it is called Christian nationalism. I have studied the Bible and read it through 3 times. Remember, politicians and religious leaders of the time were the ones who crucified Jesus.

Inspired. At 70 years old, a retired Registered nurse, since childhood experiencing all forms of domestic violence, have my children suffer from domestic violence, studying history, it is refreshing and inspiring to see women bring out the truth of women's strength and break untrue stereotypes. Women and children are still considered second class citizens. In my childhood when a girl was was born, "Oh, it's just another split-tail", and the father was chastised. If a boy was born, there would be celebration and patting the father on the back. Women were the possession of men and depended on them for financial resources. When a girl graduated from high school in the late '60s, she was expected to marry, even though all her life she saw her mother and siblings abused in a marriage. From my professional and personal experiences, our society is in denial of domestic violence. Anytime a person is told they are superior to another person or people, it is a setup for abuse of power and there will always be abuse of the ones thought less of, ie Hallacost, racism, abuse of children and women, of those they have been assigned to protect, etc. Women have the power to change the world by just researching what type of mate or spouse they choose. I am deeply concerned about women's rights to abortion when we have had the Vietnam and Afghanistan war that were without cause, killing thousands of mother's sons and none of the leaders who started them have been held responsible. Is this one of the reasons to fight abortion, so we will have more men to be disintegrated in wars?????
