Legendary director/writer Blake Edwards..what a resume! His best-known films include Breakfast at Tiffany's, Days of Wine and Roses, 10, Victor/Victoria, and the hugely successful Pink Panther film series with British actor Peter Sellers. Often thought of as primarily a director of comedies, he also directed several drama, musical, and detective films. Late in his career, he transitioned to writing, producing, and directing for theater.
In 2004, he received an Honorary Academy Award in recognition of his writing, directing, and producing an extraordinary body of work for the screen.

Blake Edwards was a fantastic talent. His jokes in the Clousoe films revolved around take a funny situation, top that, and then top that! Example? Clousoe trips onto a moving hostess trolley, is thrown into a bed that folds up into the wall, and then the bed and the wall all fall away into the canal. Funny situation, topped, and then topped again. Brilliant!!!
Would love to see the entire interview...Blake Edwards was a dynamic director...producer..writer.. I loved the movie THAT'S LIFE...only wish I could get it on DVD

At the 5:30 mark, Blake talks about "the dumb syndrome" of hiring someone to do comedic role because he's funny or looks funny, and therefore the movie's going to be funny. While I agree with Blake that this applies in many cases, is there a better example of an actor who is funny and looks funny and therefore the movie will be funny than Peter Sellers in the role of Inspector Clouseau?

@@marenmacdonald3341 I agree with you and Blake with, again, the exception of Peter Sellers. Witness "The Party" which had the shortest script in the history of Hollywood for a two-hour movie. "The Party" script was actually a rough outline that Blake and Peter used to improvise on the marriage of their own unique creative talents.
