A brief explanation of a direct conversion receiver using the NE602 double balanced mixer and product detector IC. This is an active balanced mixer IC widely used in radio receivers and for other RF mixing applications. It can also be used as a product detector. It has good radio frequency signal mixing characteristics, which makes it very useful as a mixer in radio receivers. It can handle moderate to high RF signal levels, but does not perform well in severe signal overloading conditions. So RF signal attenuation may be necessary for very high RF signal input levels. It has good weak signal handling characteristics with good sensitivity to weak signals. Also demonstrates the working of this IC as a product detector in a DC receiver.
