You guys probably know this but I encurage everyone to listen to Dire Straits, every album is a masterpiece when it comes to production :) Such a live, airy sound!

When I was in the market for a pair of good speakers. I listened to Dire Straight’s first album on KEF 104-2’s. I was sold on them. That was in 1984. I saved up my money & bought them in 1985. I still love my speakers all these years later. Especially listening to Dire Straight’s.

I agree, my favorite performer - Mark Knopfler including some of his solo efforts. # 2 for is Fleetwood Mac.

Kudos to you for having one of the best Hi-Fi channels out there! I have a lot of respect for Paul McGowan at PSAudio, he's a super nice guy, has one of the better Q&A sessions to tune into, takes time for his customers, and definitely treats his employees very well. He and his team at PSAudio are all great. I recently took a factory tour, everything about their operation was dynamite. But, at the end I wasn't blown away by their speakers and/or gear. I'm looking looking to upgrade my speakers and I wanted so much to love these but they weren't my cup of tea. For my ears, they shimmer too much in the upper octaves, the bass is tight but didn't blow me away, and the midrange just didn't pop on demo tracks I listened to in their room. The frequency response just sounded flat, almost like they measured well in a chamber but I was hoping for a live listening experience and it wasn't there. Maybe with a series of REL's they might be better, not sure. I don't own their equipment either, and they obviously had all of their gear in full flight, maybe it was the gear...Look forward to your channel!

I like what I hear. A demanding old track with good dynamics and swing (like most of DS work). Very good sound dispersion and well played when you are up front (mic close). In listening position backwards too much of room reverberation, but probably not so pronounced in real life. Uneducated does not understand that big speakers way out in the room, to set the sound stage free, need subwoofers. Thank you!

Can't say that I like this design and I would say that it's because of the lower midrange playing in a too big volume that create colouration. Lower mid sounds dull and unconncted to the upper registers. I would have divided the bass in two sections where lower mid are handled by a 6,5" in a 7-10 liter cabinet. That will help get some punch back and connect bass and upper mid/treble. Now I hear a too soft and dull bass with a too clean/bright upper mid/treble. A nice speaker, but I see the potential to get a even better result with a different topology in the bass. A reference version with 2x10" bass and a 6,5" lower mid???

I have listened to a lot of your videos and am often very impressed with the dynamics, warmth, depth and detail of the speakers used in the videos. Maybe it is just me, but these FR30's sound dull and lifeless compared to other speakers in your videos.

@@InOdoremSuavitatis Maybe it is just the way that recording comes across on the FR 30's. Maybe it is a mix of the McIntosh amps and the speakers and the recording. Either way, it sounds more dull and flat than on my system (McIntosh MA 6500/Dali Helicon 400) and more dull than other speakers on this channel or other recordings sound on the FR 30's.

Dire Strairs ❤ and they sound good These speakers seem very directed so is placement critical? When you moved in between them to check out the gear powering them the sound really dropped off in clarity, but when you went to the outside edges towards the back there was less of this so I would say it’s not the microphone you used. Either way thank you

You connected the speakers as bi-wire. Doesn’t it make them bypass the crossovers? In this case this is not the real sound of the speakers.

These speakers blow McIntosh xrt1.1 away.

Wow that intro wax BRIGHT!!...where da bass go? Holy crap that vertical off axis change when you sat down was huge...not great driver integration right there. doesn't blow me away considering the price.

The FR30s are not neutral or bright speakers. Pairing them with Mcs will make them sound dull. Pair them with a neutral Class D, then see them bloom.

🤌wth are you talking about? ClassD? These speakers have low efficiency and need lots of current. ClassD is just going to be even more lifeless.

@@AbsoluteFidelity I live in 1926 actually. Western Electric made best speakers back then and audio has only gone downhill since. And BTW I listened to the latest & greatest Hypex, and GaN amps and NO, I couldn't agree less about classD.

I get tired of all the "should have paired with XYZ to sound great". If the product is that sensitive to component pairing, the maker should clearly say so. Same as a high performance sport car saying use premium high octane gas only! Not all of us have tons of money to try one component after another to find that magical combination.

Two things. You can’t even begin to tell what a speaker sounds like through KZread. We’ve no idea what that room is doing to the sound. These videos are nice to look at but they tell us very little about how the speaker will sound in our personal environments (emphasis on the plural)

they sound soulless to me.
