The 1st concert of the two played at Madison Square Garden, New York U.S.A. during February of 1992. Already close to 6-months into the OES World tour. This was the last time I saw Dire Straits. I feel privileged to have seen them twice - Once in 1985 and once in 1992.

This tour was a tired out Dire Straits and an emotionally and physically exhausted Mark Knopfler. 1985 - '86 were their two best years.

Almost 29 years ago. Seems like yesterday to me, though. This show is previous to the olympic games in Barcelona. I was 16. I'm 45 already... Dire Straits had two absolute virtuoso players playing on "On Every Street", their last studio album: Mark Knopfler and pedal steel guitar Paul Franklin. Franklin's solos on the live album "On The Night" are at the same level as Knopfler's, and that's simply mindblowing. You don't normally get two super virtuosos in the same band. You are incredibly lucky if you get one! These two monsters invented a very particular sound in tunes like Calling Elvis, On Every Street or Planet of New Orleans, and Franklin improved Walk of Life with his solo. It's hard to think that any rock band in the future might even get close to Dire Straits' level of musicianship. Classic albums, incredible tunes, wonderful lyrics, world-class musicians, powerful live shows.... Dire Straits were a miracle.

Well said, Dani. Mark and Paul Franklin, in combination, are the best thing I've heard in my life (and will still be when I die). By the way, my favorite guitar solo of all time is Paul Franklin in this song, another one of Mark's. It's a rather unassuming song, although spectacularly cool, and of course Mark's solo, which comes first, is a tough act to follow. But what Franklin does then makes me cry every time I hear it. kzread.info/dash/bejne/q52p0sWOdavIaNI.html

Your actually incorrect. Dire Straits did not play two shows at Madison Square Garden in February 1992 during the On Every Street Tour. They played the one show on February 26th 1992 (film above); they did however, play the Meadowlands Arena (former Brendan Byrne / Continental Airlines Arena) on February 23rd in East Rutherford, NJ three days prior and then the Nassau Coliseum on February 28th 1992 in Uniondale, NY (Long Island). I know this for a fact because I have the ticket stubs from all three shows.

Bravo! 😢
