The nazi salute also referred to as the Roman salute was around for a long time it’s based of the ancient Olympic salute which no one does anymore.

Thank you for recognising my people of Ireland. The man who refused to dip the flag was Martin Sheridan from my hometown of Bohola County Mayo. One of the greatest Irish American athletes in the world at the time and part of a group called the Irish whales. When asked why the did not dip the flag he said "this flag bows to no earthly King". Ever since that day the American flag has never bowed to anyone.
