Two of the most valuable things I learned are that one, you can use dip powder with gel liquids, and two, the pour-over. I find my application is much more even with pour-over. I love using gel liquids because they don't dry. I have plenty of time to perfect the cuticles before curing. However, I don't particularly like the gel liquids on my natural nails. I've done everything and the mani just doesn't last as long. So, I use a base coat with dip liquids and clear. Then go to 2 dips with the gel and dip, and encapsulate after filing and buffing (after alcohol scrub!) with gel top. Sounds like a lot of layers, but they're thin (learning liquid control made all the difference Marla) and I really do need the strength.

Love the idea that you can put clear dip powder over using dip liquids for more strength. Great work, as always ❤

I like the mix and match and would most definitely prefer the clear dip powder over the gel method vs the top/base coat encapsulating. Thanks for that tip!!! And side note as someone who started out doing sculpt before moving to dip, not all dip powders can be used with monomer, I've tried.....from my experience it depends on the manufacturer of the dip powder. If someone wants to try, best to swatch it first before applying to the nails. Dip powders are milled finer than acrylic powders. I'm not a professional just a DIY'er. I also love Modelone acrylics....they are my go to also with dip!!

Thank you for that insight! I can never say for certain bc I know that there are always exceptions plus I have no experience with monomer!

@@MarlaKris some dip powders just won't give the right bead for application. I have parted ways with monomer......dips are way safer for the home environment LOL!!! There is no non stinky monomer!! My husband and dogs appreciate it LOL!!

Marla, you been doing alright? Just checking up. Your voiceovers lately, to me at least, have been sounding less… enthusiastic than they used to be. Hope you’re okay 🖤

What you think about doing gel polish on your nail but then a clear dip on the top ? Would that be weird do you think it would last? I love dip powder my nails break easily so I was going to the nail shop n getting acrylic nudes n I’ll use my own gel polish on top. I just got into using dip powder so I don’t go the nail shop anymore but I have a bunch of gel polishes I want to use up

I noticed when you did the gel method you didn't flash cure each nail, so my question is when a gel is self leveling does it still level with dip powder. I worry gel running into my cuticles.

I haven’t had the issue of gel running after pouring over BUT if you’re super concerned, definitely feel free to do a 10 sec flash!
