A lot of “ clean” makeup formulas short change you on the preservatives which is why they have a short self life. It’s not about performance, it’s about bacteria. They should really be making these palettes smaller and less expensive because you have to throw it away before you can even use half of it.

Yes! If they made them smaller with a lower price point it would counter the short shelf life. $52 for a palette that only lasts 6 months is ridiculous.

Sick and tired of clean formulas that under perform or go hard pan or cause bacteria to grow. I feel the green and clean washing of everything is not necessary. Science and evidence is there for a reason. Preservatives have a rule. Eye drops without Preservatives need to be thrown out every 24 hrs! I don't know who the target audience of this anymore. High price tag, short shelf life, so so formula!

What happens to the palettes after those 6 months?

The very short shelf life is usually due to no preservatives in products. Preservatives are there to inhibit bacterial growth. People think its such a great thing, to have products with no preservatives, but especially for eye products, I don’t think it’s safe from an infection perspective. Many people have gotten eye infections for “clean” mascaras.

I like extreme closeups you’re doing in this video! Often times it seems like the camera doesn’t pick up on the way the products perform irl. The combination of what looks like natural light with those closeups I can see what the shadow would look like in person. Thank you!

Hi Sofia, In my opinion the look you created with the cool tone palette suits you much, much better than the other one. And is not the first time. Regarding the dupe situation I think the majority of beauty youtubers can find a dupe for 99% of the new eyeshadows/blushes releases. Same with people who buy more makeup than they can use in 7 lifetimes. Many people tend to stick with the colours they love and some people want to try something different. The thing with the different/unusual colours is that is very possible to not look as good as the “boring” dupable colours, or to not have the same confidence when we wear something different (makeup, clothes etc) or the lifestyle is not so rich in events to justify the spending. It is like you have 50 evening dresses in your wardrobe but you go to a party one time in a blue moon. :)) “Clean” beauty is the best thing ever for skincare/makeup brands and the worse for consumers. I hope this trend will disappear when people will understand that this clean beauty is just a clever way for brands to gain more money in much shorter time. Since Dior aligned with this trend is out of my shopping list. I’ll buy the “boring”, dupable Chanel holiday eyeshadow palette because is gorgeous and I know I will wear a lot (during the week when I go to work, in weekends when I go out or visit my friends, holidays etc.) and I don’t need a special occasion for that. For me is not only about the colours when we talk about makeup. The formula is very important. In my opinion there are elegant, classy formulas (Chanel, Cle de Peau, Hermes and few others) and the rest. Thanks for sharing! 😊

Thank you for this. Dior is losing many of its usual audience over these formulas. I am not picking anything up after a new blush became hard pan after 2 uses. Absolutely appalling. How come hourglass can make a palette that can still perform 5 yrs later and still be clean. I'll be sticking to other brands and staying clear of dior palettes

I’ve been waiting for your reviews on these palettes! I absolutely LOVE the silver look in the intro! You really can pull off any color. I know you’re a warm tone lover, but the cool tones sure love you! The lip maximizes are gorgeous, too, especially Pure Copper! 😍 I want both of these Backstage palettes. I like that the Silver Essentials isn’t super pigmented. It’s more ethereal which I think works for the color story. I don’t have anything like it. I want the Copper Essentials after seeing your look. It screams fall to me!

I have the Silver Essentials Eye Pallete. It is certainly frosty and icy with the silvers. I like it a lot and I don't have thing like it in my collection. The look that you created is beautiful! I'm hoping it will last a lot longer than 6 months. I'm leaning towards getting the Copper Essentials as well.

one of my favorite videos of yours to date. I bought the Dior Silver palette and the matching lip gloss. Their lip gloss formula is my favorite. I think the Dior Backstage prices are fair compared to Cle de Peau and TF. I love that the Silver Palette leans purple rather than blue. The packaging isn't luxe but I like that it is lightweight and not bulky.

The Silver Essentials palette is such a beautiful palette and your eye looks are wonderful. What I wouldn't give to have the amount of real estate you have . Being a hooded lid lady I can't do this more elaborate look as most of it is hid under the hood.

I know you are a warm tone lover (as am I) however the silver palette looked stunning on you. It’s way too cool and icy for my skin tone but I just had to tell you how incredible it looked on you.

I really really like the copper palette, and it looks great on you. I don't need it, but I can't guarantee I won't cave :D. I am interested in the maximizer, but I like the ones with an "intense" colour base, and I can't figure this one out. On the site there is a shimmer bronze one that nobody seems to have reviewed, which may be a bit more pigmented (still in the maximizer range, of course). I love the formula, so I am pretty sure I will pick one of he two up. I think the looks from the silver one are really nice, but I can get a similar vibe with last year's holiday palette (in the normal range), the galactic one. Gorgeous, and has that lilac shift. Do you have a link for the earrings?

The Silver Essential is something I will want to swatch in store, because it looks very nice in promotional photos and in videos, but since Dior formula generally with eyeshadow is more subtle, it's not something I want to just buy online without seeing it in store.

Does anyone know of any other quads that have nice plum or purple tones? Tisse Rivoli is so subtle in its purple-ness and I’m not a fan of how moisturizing cdp was on my oily eyelids 😂 Chanel use to have more but they were discontinued 😢

I was waiting for your review before placing an order on Dior's website to see if I'd add one of these to my cart before checking out 😊 Unfortunately them being powdery is a deal-breaker for me, I hate seeing all that product disappear into the air when I tap off my brush 😂 Both the looks you did are pretty though ❤ but I'm also partial to warm tones so that second look is definitely my favorite, I'll definitely be doing something similar with the ND sunset palette, which does indeed look very similar and I already own it. I feel like it used to be 6 months because there was a cream primer in those palettes, but seriously, 6 months for a powder, even "clean" 🙄 I'm definitely still using my 1 year old Cool Neutrals one and I don't see any difference in texture or performance so far.

Dior earned so much respect from me by supporting the value “innocent until proven guilty” and by going against the current of destroying a career based on unproven allegations. When Johnny Depp was going through his legal battles with his ex & Warner Bros/Disney took away his roles, Dior did not terminate Depp’s brand ambassadorship. Furthermore, they signed a multi-year contract with him. I’m not pro-Johnny or anti-Amber; I don’t believe in someone’s livelihood being destroyed due to allegations. Dior gained my permanent loyalty! As someone else commented, this is the best holiday collection so far.

The silver essentials is STUNNING but my god, a 6 months shelf life for $52?? And you know this isn't one of those "it will actually last you several years" situations because the whole "clean" idiocy means no reliable preservatives. It's just so sad and stupid because this is a palette I'd snap up in a heartbeat if it had the old formula.

I went to check on my Dior eyeshadow and 6 months??? What? I must be out of the loop bc I remember many years ago Dior not being "clean". It's a skip for me.

Im kind of ignorant on the topic of how do I know what a clean product is? After those 6 months the eyeshadow doesn’t work the same?

I was not impressed with the cool toned palette. The formula was really dusty, I was expecting much more, especially with the payoff. Like you said… when we are used to more from other brands there is a DISTINCT difference. Also, I am more impressed with the formula in the Dior Quints. It was a let down because I absolutely LOVE cool tones.

6 month shelf life for $50ish yikes 😅 maybe next time
