March 28: this song. I remember being 5/6/7 yo and every time they played it I used to cry… not out of sadness tho… just made me feel DEEP. I didn’t understand the lyrics didn’t know who these people were but the music… just the music. Flash forward 20 years I’ve been around, I lived in London for years and back in Spain this song come back to my mind. Damn I needed to hear it to know what’s really about… it comes out that I’ve always been who I am and even when I was a kid and even without knowing English I could understand that the friendship that I give, IF AIN’T REAL, AIN’T NOTHING. Those that call me a friend know what I’m about. As far as I know, that’s what friends are for. I give it, I don’t expect it butI demand it.

Clearly she has a deep connection to this song and simply cannot hold back the tears toward the end. Always a gracious and generous performer, she shares the song and stage with her friends and is moved by their talents. This is an amazing piece of music history.

In this live version they all sound like each of them is trying to OUTSING one another, but even though Miss Gladys sings the least lines in this song, she wipes her butt with all 3 of them, (specially Miss Dion who seems to be running out of voice and/or breath every 2 words) and Gladys shines the brightest!

+Mike Boland Indeed, this performance gave me chills. It was competitive because Stevie sang his heart out, then Elton and then Gladys did. Truly amazing stuff.
