I went there when I was a 21 year old navy sailor. Its kind of funny because at the time I didn't even know that the palace was a 1700 year old Roman palace. I didn't learn until my more recent fascination with ancient history. At the time I remember how cool it was that it was an ancient structure that was incorporated into a modern, living town center. That is what makes split such a special and unique place.

This is one of the reasons why I love living in this region. Even today I will find new stuff I never noticed before. That is the best thing ever and also I became quite obsessed with the story of Diocletion xD Sometimes I wish time travel was a thing just to see this palace in its whole beauty and glory.

if you wanna talk about irony then you need to say that all of (croatia) churches and church palaces and houses were built by deconstructing roman buildings and that is done on purpose while at the same time the priests convinced people that giants ans faeries built those beautiful roman structures
