Dinosaur Vocalization Study Pt. IV (2023) | Cretaceous Era III

0:00 Intro
0:24 Pinacosaurus
1:04 Gorgosaurus
1:50 Igaunadon
2:39 Deinocheirus
3:31 Therizinosaurus
4:30 Giganotosaurus
5:11 Kronosaurus
An ongoing study utilizing the most recent scientific data on dinosaur vocalizations. Sounds are produced by myself and digitally workshopped from modern non-syrinx based avian reptiles. Using skull and olfactory cavity proportions, one can attempt to recreate the flow of sound, frequency, and volume of each animal. Much study is required for each particular species, and often several phases are trashed due to general unlikelihood. The final results are based on acute representations of what sounds would be most comfortable and base-line for each animal. Video also includes other reptiles, even though both are much more difficult to produce accurately.

Aim: To be more sophisticated than Julia Clarke's rendition, which included: combining the booming call of the Eurasian bittern with the growling vocalizations of the Chinese crocodile, and then scaling it up to T-rex’s estimated size (about 12 meters or 40 feet long), what they got was a ominous low rumble.

@@ExpiredCrayfish You can't just make sounds like these out of thin air, you have to use and modify pre-existing sounds in order to produce these. The person doing this is taking sounds that would be similar to the sounds these animals would have produced, and is modifying them to make them more accurate given the body of the animal. It's largely speculative, but it's as close as we can reasonably get given our current knowledge.

Interesting to hear how you recreated the Gorgosaurus, compared to how you recreated Tyrannosaurus and Dryptosaurus. Is this due to the new studies published on the larynx found from the Pinacosaurus? Or is it due to some other find? And are you going to go back and recreate such noises from said Tyrannosaurs in the future? One last note, absolutely loved the video. Keep it up!

  • @MeMe-tz5th

    @MeMe-tz5th

    Жыл бұрын

I think he might have created it like that due to the decreased size of Gorgo, mixed with the fact that the Larynx was discovered. T-rex probably won't be recreated cause I think he creates these sounds from the perspective of a human. Chances are the sounds a Tyrannosaurus rex were so deep and loud that we wouldn't be able to hear it and would instead feel it. Im not the poster so I'm just speculating lmao.

I deliberately don't use similar samples or methods twice even if it's another theropod in order to give alternate possibilities a chance. That way if I'm off on one, I'm not necessarily off on another. The sounds here for Gorgosaurus were one of the first I methods used and can be heard in my original Trex Resound before I redid that and did a whole series.

  • @StudioMod

I did a video once about how I consider my Tyrannosaurus vocalizations, but I suppose one day I could put something like that together. The truth is, the less people who know, the better it is for me financially lol. I beat around the bush with people as much as I can to avoid letting people understand how to do it themselves. And while it's not easy, there are definitely more talented audio engineers out there. I'd be out of a good thing if I told everyone how I do this stuff. I will say though that my methods are based entirely on paleontologist Julia Clarke's methods and I managed to get information directly as to how she went about this process. So I'm also not comfortable outright sharing what was provided to me in confidence.

The sounds that Gorgosaurus libratus makes sound more like industrial noises to me, like a creature in some kind of engine factory, because the exhalations and puffs it makes, rather than a theropod. With this I am not saying that it is wrong, let's take into account that birds like the Shoebill can make sounds like guns.

Awesome dude! this remind me of my childhood when my mom gave me 2 huge dinosaur books one came with its 3D glasses and the other one was full of curiosities as location where they were found, which animals could roam together and useful stuff, that second book also had handmade drawings and I really cherished those books. Now I can bring voices to those dinosaurs my mom taught me

I love these videos so much, always sparks my curiosity. I sometimes wonder exactly goes into informing these interpretations, especially curious about ones like gorgosaurus and what discoveries suggest that it could have such a spectacular roar. I know this kind of comment shows up a lot, but hearing one of these sounds in the wild would be so surreal! Imagine hearing a call like this; so believable and vaguely familiar, yet at the same time just as vaguely alien to what you know. this kind of stuff unites my love and fascination for paleontology, speculative zoology and even cryptozoology. These videos tread between believability and spectacle in such a fun way, I think my only complaint is not being told what went into each series of sounds, I wanna know more ! I god damn love unknowable animals lol
