Dinosaur Rampage Dark Ride | A Ride similar to Universal's Spider-Man Ride

Dino Rampage Ride is a 3D motion simulator dark ride located at Fantawild Adventure Theme Park in China. What do you guys think of this ride? Is it almost like the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride at Universal's Islands of Adventure?
Ride filmed at Fantawild Adventure Theme Park in ZhuZhou, China

Unlike the Spider-man ride, they didn't really make an effort to hide the edges of the screens, so it kinda breaks the immersion each time you turn a corner and see just a big square of 3d screen sitting there - it's like all these buildings are randomly missing a wall.

Part of what makes spider-man work is you never see the edge of the screens, they’re always framed in such a way that you are only able to see what the ride wants you to see in a given scene. And the physical sets around it compliment the film elements in a way it doesn’t feel like a screen shoved into a city set. This ride kinda misses the whole point and just throws screens in wherever and they don’t feel natural.

Given the amount of violence in the films, I'm surprised they didn't have the dinosaur bite the one soldier in half. Then use water effects to simulate blood splattering on the riders, but maybe that's where they drew the line on this one. WOW! Hey, little Billy, wanna learn about death and dismemberment while we are on vacation? Let's ride Dinosaur Rampage!

Yeah, even Universal Studios draws the line at actually having someone get killed on screen. In the new King Kong ride you see a lady get grabbed by a giant crab and I remember thinking "Wow, she's toast." But at the end you hear her say she's okay, she made it. VERY UNLIKE this ride LOL

Seriously lazy design. Like the designers are saying "We just don't care. We got our paycheck". A bit of actual scenery might hide the warts, but... "NOOoooo! Think of the poor budget! We can't deprive the stockholders of their share of the $200 it would have taken for some painted junk to cover.". Walt's Imagineers had an eye for detail. Something lacking in today's "Getitdoneneers".

Why such kinds of attraction which is similar to Disney or Universal is popular in China is because that the ticket price of those parks are cheaper than DIsney and Universal Studios (Disney ticket: 500 yuan, and Fantawild ticket: 300 yuan), and Fantawild Parks are located in 27 cities of China, some cities even have two or three parks. Thus, instead of going to Disney or Universal Studios which is located in Beijing or Shanghai, some people prefer to go to those local parks during weekends as an alternative choice, which is called as '平替' (litterally translated as 'closer alternative') on Chinese social media.

This could be either a great or dumb idea but could one take the lenses off a pair of these glasses and create a camera lens with them? Like how people are taking the old disposable kodak lens and fitting them onto lens caps so they can use them on DSLRs. As I said could be dumb but it could also help with recording by slapping that on to avoid trying to line up the glasses and camera to minimize any shaking. Just food for thought ^^ great video as always

This is a thing. But I do not believe every ride uses the same type of 3d. Maybe they do these days.

  • @thomasgoodwin2648

    @thomasgoodwin2648

    21 күн бұрын

There are 2 major types of 3d used for ride these days. Anaglyph: The Red-Blue glasses. Differentiates left/right eyes through color color variations (Blue light filtered out by red lenses and vice-versa). These are the old skool way and not super effective. Also known to cause after effects in most peoples vision (colors look really weird for a while after taking them off). Will not be effective for those with color blindness. Polarization: 2 projectors project polarized light (light wiggles in only 1 plane vs randomly) such that the planes are 90 degrees out of phase. The glasses also set so that the light they filter out is 90 degrees out of phase between left and right eyes. This uses full spectrum (all colors) light. Currently the most common for rides of this nature. Has been know to cause headaches for some individuals. Increasingly more people report this effect with extended use. There is also just good old fashioned lens switching (alternately switching left and right views with LCDs) but this isn't really practical for ride use since it requires a power source and has been shown to cause nausea, headaches, or even trigger epileptic episodes in some individuals. This is still the most commonly used VR technique. None of them will work for a person who has lost sight in 1 eye. The blind are right out (sorry).

I wasn't a fan of the numerous times the action on the screens would go into slow motion when the objects were getting closer to the viewer. One shot of a slo-mo pteranodon was especially illogical because the swarm of pteros coming out of the building in the distance were still at regular speed. Some of the transitions from screens to real sets were a strain on spatial sensibilities as well. And there was one screen that you could see for too long, so it paused and then reset while you were still facing it. The vehicle should have rotated 180 rather than backing slooooooowly away from that screen.

Torn on this one. I like the nice long ride time, and SOME of the video screens which integrated well, but over half of them did not. They didn’t even match the surroundings. Not even like looking out a window. It was just disjointed and not seamless at all. And I don’t understand the ending either. But the building is cool and the practical effects are good. I just wish the screens meshed better with the practical sets.

Bullet proof dinosaurs is hilarious. They are just unloading into a trex and it's not even phased. This ride is slow. I don't mean it's long, no, I mean, look at the ride vehicle, it's slow and doesn't really do much. Moving at a craw and randomly spinning for no reason. Seriously, there's no reason for most of the spins in the ride. You can clearly see the screens well before you get to that part of the ride, more importantly you can see them FROZEN both before and after the scene is done. The sets are pretty lifeless, with nothing going on, or standing out. Its so bright that you can clearly see the ceiling, reminding you you are moving through a set. I'm just not comment on all the scenes that were directly ripped from The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man.

Kinda disappointed that there was only one dinosaur animatronic and it was towards the beginning of the ride. It would've been cool to slowly add in little dinosaurs here and there like raptors or the pterodactyls coming at you from the ceiling, and maybe one of those snake looking things coming through the wall...and then finishing with a T-Rex. But, I guess that'd be too much like Universal

@@Attractions360 Yes, I saw that. It's definitely inspired by Spider-Man and I see the similarities, but I think it lacks the experience or inspiration of the greats. Just as someone said here earlier in the comments, that the screens do not match the sets, and you often see multiple departments/decors at the same time, while this is probably not the intention. The quality of the animations in the film are also very poorly done, and that reminded me of the equally poor video animations of F&F. I just meant that it can't match the level of the Spider-Man ride at all.

"Eh..." Rather than "Meh...". Obvious what they were going for but doesn't quite make it IMO. Though it looks fun for what it is. The actions seems to be happening around you, rather than to you though. Did a gaming company do the CG? I don't know the rides age, so won't comment on the look, but the movement feels like a "Rail Shooter" arcade game. Very "Transformers" or "LA Machine Guns". Just missing the "Shoot Here!" circles everywhere. The animatronics and SFX also feel a bit weird. They seem to be missing from many scenes (no vapour during the sewer freezing scene for example) but then you get a random flame pop that doesn't really match the action? Also that looooong ride reverse with the project screen frozen in the background. >O.o Can anyone translate what's being said in the closing scene? It feels like there should be SFX or an animatronic there but you're just staring at a wall while someone yells from offscreen?
