The guy mostly responsible for this game is Bill Williams, he made some really cool stuff in the 8 bit computer era. He referred to this game as "Bill's Nightmare" I guess there was a ton of endless interference from outside sources, and it's development led to him leaving the video game industry.

I remember hearing that as the reason why Contra Hard Corps took out the life bar in the US version. In the Japanese version you had 3 HP, but in the US version you always died in one hit which made the game brutally difficult.

We now know that games don't work that way but tend to make the opposite mistake, make them too easy.

Ding Dong must’ve gotten transmissions on his planet of nothing but the Simpsons, makes sense.

Reading the Simpson trivia in his nonchalant way makes it that much better.

I’m so glad ding dong can finally get a new game after over 20 years! He has a lot to catch up on! And beat.

I remember as a kid , getting so frustrated trying to beat this game. Thanks Ding dong for playing this, I had all but forgotten this game until I stumbled upon your play through.

I'd get into bart's nightmare easier if I didn't have to grind for endgame

This is the source of it all... this game is the reason Ding Dong sounds so tired and dead inside. It drained him of all hope and wonder and he has remained a husk ever since.

Ooogh... This game really haunted me as a kid (thanks for posting your streams DingDong!).

Man I love coming back to this one on occasion lately. Just the amount of passion and expertise for something that almost feels out of spite. I know that motivation well and it's fun to watch :) can't wait for another break in time he can get some more out :)

Speaking of furnaces being bosses in kids games, when I was a wee lad I had a horrible nightmare about a furnace. There were two doors in my room, one lead to the hallways and the other led to our (electric) boiler, that was normally very quiet. One night I was getting up out of bed for a piss and I opened what I thought was the door to the hallway, only to find it was the boiler cupboard. I just assumed it was a sleepy mistake, and went to try the other door. It was the boiler cupboard again. I was confused, but went to try the first door again and when I opened it there was a big, black coal-powered furnace, spewing flames and smoke into my room. I woke up screaming in my bed and couldn't get back to sleep for school the next day. I had to fight the boss furnace in my dream. I had the Bart's Nightmare nightmare. I am the Bart.

I don’t usually comment but thank you for this let’s play. While I was vomiting my brains out I was very soothed by this games soundtrack. This music is not at all hellish and will not haunt my own nightmares and remind me of this horrible sickness I have. :)

Virtual Bart and Bart Vs The Space Mutants are the ones I had and remember the most. The Bart Pig and Baby Bart are locked into my mind forever.

I’m glad I could learn all of these amazing Simpson facts that I can tell my friends about

to be fair, this game's logic makes about as much sense as the logic in my dreams

You know, you have a very good voice for streaming and other solo styled content, plus you have a deadpan delivery to your jokes that's just uncommon among others on the platform. Here's hoping I can catch one of your streams.

I never thought I would enjoy this so much, "we kill that old woman, that's her brain." Acclaim sometimes did good things and sometimes complete trash, they were never very consistent.

JESUS only seconds into the actual game and I've already learned something I never knew. Control over the gum bubble is a gamechanger.

Bart only visited 14 countries in the show, and did nothing in most of them, so I'm skeptical.

i played this game and am glad to know it really was crazy hard. i played this so much and dont remember getting very far but you see all the games and getting to see part 2 of games was rare

Glad to have the funny stream back

I had this game as a kid and hated it. The Godzilla and Indiana Jones levels basically have you dead before you even have any concept of how to play them. The underwater level is the only one I could occasionally beat. Luckily I think it was a flea market pickup so I doubt we paid much for it.

I can relate to the "I have to be playing it to remember what buttons do what." Most of the times when someone asks me what the controls are, I need to pick up the controller or I'm not going to remember most of the controls.
