    The chemistry of this line-up was one of the kind with Peter behind producers desk.. they never repeated it by songwriting, what they did on SBD. With Tjodlav behind kit music breathe, no harsh feelings towards Barker (he is an alien behind the drums)

  • @georgecostan3248

    @georgecostan3248

    Barker was good behind the drums and they did awesome songs with him, but the one member who gave a distinctive edge to SBD was Astennu. Check out Carpe Tenebrum's second album and you will see what I mean. He almost influenced PEM as well, but he blew the bridges with the band and his input was diluted (check the early version of Blessings... as proof).

    @blackefeltsch74594 жыл бұрын

    SBD is the most unique album in Dimmu's catalogue and I can never get enough of its ludicrously menacing and hellishly insane soundscapes. It shifts priorities in terms of composition and gives the keyboard - with Mustis as its new conductor - a more powerful presence, plastering the album's sonic palette with sprawlingly romantic piano melodies and bombastically harsh and dark organ pieces. Just listen to the crazily violent organ explosions in the ending of _Behind the Curtains of Night-Phantasmagoria_ , the seductive opening piano melodies of _Dreamside Dominions_ , the impacting opening of _United in Unhallowed Grace_ , the imperial intro of _The Promised Future Aeons_ , the schizophrenic eruption of wrath at 28:15 in _The Blazing Monoliths of Defiance_ or the explosion of infinite torment at 41:06 in _Grotesquery Conceiled (Within Measureless Magic)_ . In conjunction with the accelerated pace of the music in comparison to older material, it just creates a more potent mix of cataclysmic proportions. The riffs are faster, meaner and more twisted and it all just hits harder with an unending ferocity of a caged beast as Shagrath's frenzied outbursts of maniacal rage shriek over the viciously bombarding sound. Vortex's hymnic clean vocals provide the perfectly added regal tone. With all these elements combined in such a fashion, SBD sounds cosmic, majestic and satanic, all at the same time. An absolute masterpiece.

  • @molletre9606

    @molletre9606

    4 жыл бұрын

    Absolutely yes. I remember how they got quite some hate for the more majestic/cosmic sound back than. It took me some time to enjoy the album in full, but they were just WAY ahead of their time. Its so full of details it took me years to get it all. Today I see it as their pinnacle as artist and musicians and listen to it regularly. Foremost because of the insane keyboards Mustis added. I mean its bombastic but he clearly tried to keep it down to classic piano and organ sounds, very unlike many others. I know Nagash did the Bass Guitar here, but the added vocals of Vortex are truly unique. I mean "The Insight and the Catharsis" is HIS song. His part in it was the highlight of every concert and still gives me the shivers and tears to my eyes. Its a shame both had to go due to petty things like money (if that all is true). They never recovered from that, till today.

    I remember hearing the first time the kickoff Song "Reptile" through my Headphones and it blew my mind, it was in midsummer somewhere in 2007 and i had to show this to one of my best friends who was also a metalhead and came ringing on my door almost daily. These memories of a simple & warm age where i was free & vital as Fvck. To the music: Listen to the AtmosFear that Mustis creates and the high level piano/keyboard skills, speaking of high level, Astennu is the best guitar player this band ever had, those majestic arpeggios & solos fit in perfectly, Dreamside Dominions is the perfect example of combining skills of the 2 mentioned members. All together with vortex's unique clean singing makes it a masterpiece that's criminally underrated. One of those albums that leads me to the Gates of my memories hidden beyond dusk and always waiting and happy to be visited again.

    Agresivo, oscuro, estridente, atmósfera brutal y con las incomparables voces de Shagrath, ICS Vortex y con el siniestro teclado de Mustis hacen de este álbum una obra de arte, el mejor de Dimmu Borgir sin duda y uno de los mejores de todos los tiempos.

    The Productmanagement behind dimmu was so perfect. I remeber waiting for this record was like the release of the ps2. Das Produktmannagement hinter dimmu war derartig perfekt, dass man auf die Erscheinung der "zweiten" Platte hinfieberte wie auf die Erscheinung der Playstation 2. I developed such a demand for the melodies that could be found on enthroned(not only me, thousands of band formed especially in eastern europe) that i ended up writing some myself. And it was super hard to find something, i ended up transcending towards immortal and eaternus and said goodbye to keyboards. And Still The Thundra Lays Untuched...
