    It's so nice to see young musicians teach theory to other musicians. learn some theory it will expose you to how and why progressions move the way they do.Some people try to say theory is for nerds but that's not true, music theory is for someone who want's advance in their knowledge of music. Don't limit yourself in your study of music.

    Beautiful Birdseye maple neck on that Fender Lite Ash Strat!! By the sound of it you still have the original 500k pots fitted, I recently bought one of these, the Birdseye is not so pronounced and figured, smaller but more abundant!! I listened to videos on KZread and found the guitar too bright sounding, especially the bridge. Folk commented about swapping the pots for 250k, so that's what I have done, also fitted a Seymour Duncan's SSL 5 to the bridge and wired it to the 2nd tone pot. Awesome tone now in all 5 positions!! Thanks for your lesson even if the theory is slightly beyond me!!!

    Gospel guitar tutorials ARE hard to find on YT like someone said in the comments. The ones that are here, assume you know a bunch. My suggestion would be to overlay the chord chart while you play. I'm trying to keep up... :/ I know it's probably a pain to do in edit. But hopefully we can see more of that.

    Hi bro, thanks for you videos. One thing i want to ask you, you talk about diminish and half diminish chords. Can you make a video where you elaborate and demonstrate when to use one over the other? Meaning good use case of each one that would help alot. Thanks in advance

    these gospel guys seem to have some extra "chunk" or depth in their sound, compared to the sound of my strat, which has less midrange..........i wonder if it's flatwound strings. does anyone know? thanks.

    Use your Neck pick up, roll off some of the tone lower your pick ups Consider changing to some custom shop 69’s apart from that it’s I. The hands play with intention For me I try to play clean with the mindset of making it sound as warm and acoustic like as possible

    Could you explain what you mean by "you're treating the II as the core" please?

  • @TravisCalvin

    @TravisCalvin

    5 жыл бұрын

    Sure. We’re using the 2-5-1 progression here. In the key of C maj this would be Dm - G7 - C. But we are using borrowed chords ( that aren’t specific to the key of C) to get back to that Dm. So, we are treating Dm as the temporary tonic and/or key center. So the 2-5-1 I’m paying over Dm is Em7b5 - A7 - Dm7.

    @@TravisCalvin Oh okay, so in that case the 'general rule' where the m7b5 is used before a major chord is somewhat applied to the E before the D (supposing there was no was no 251).

  • @TravisCalvin

    @TravisCalvin

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yes and no. The general rule applies to passing/leading tones. This 2-5-1 was more of a chord substitution.
