Your sense of the song is right I believe. It's the introduction of dark forces into a life, the beautiful demonic woman pulling at his soul, confounded by the girl in white. Followed by the high discordant soprano reflecting the war between light and dark....the insane mix voice reflects the tide turning towards the good, the light...light wins and resolution is achieved with Dimash bringing peace at the end as as the angel in the background descends in victory. Dimash and Igor, this is is the highest of genius. In 5 minutes it accomplishes what the best of horror/suspense films with good in the end winning achieves with hours. Epic.

I heard this song nearly 10times, and everytime I like it more and more. First time I was confused yet thrilled, but now I find it exciting and think it is a new masterpiece of this Musical Genius Igor. Dimash has to Experiment, he has to live his creativity. So much more to come, I am thankful to live in a time where Dimash is.

You are exactly right - and you’re the only reactor out there who can see that. To me it is a typical depiction of Russian religious surrealism. I think that the passion is all encompassing: that of God’s love of mankind and that, that passion exists through the ages and at all ages. The implication of the words can apply to divine passion and yes, passion of Christ, the passion we should have for living and life and passion we should have in all we do in the time we have on earth. It is another gorgeous cantata like Ogni Pietra, with a modern twist, but incorporating Russian mysticism, by the master Igor Krutoy. He is an absolute genius. That run is really very operatic for female coloratura - outstanding for me. Several top operatic sopranos have been able to perform those kinds of notes. Listen to Yma Sumac when you have time - had an 8 octave range. She was an Inca princess and she learned her trills from the birds in the Amazon. I’ve said that Dimash is the male Yma Sumac. As far as I’m concerned he can sing operatic and quasi operatic all day! It is really only this genre in the end, that will have enough breadth to showcase his amazing range and timbre so spectacularly. I really appreciate your utter perception and deep understanding of all genres of music. Your sensitivity to music is a joy to see and hear! Thank you so much, Caleb!

It 's a message to all mankind - a little angel arrives with a message from the Most High and... Everything changes in the song and on stage. The paintings of hell disappear and in their place we see the sky with clouds... The performance is really epic! Stunning work by Dimash, Igor Krutoy, choir and stage artists.

Incredible and totally different, is not it ? Dimash, a Muslim of a Sufi-inspired Islam, interpreter of a Russian Orthodox Christianity singing in Italian, the language of Catholicism... if he continues in this very ecumenical way the dears will no longer be fans but devotees ! 😊 About "passion" : in French and in Italian "passion" or "passione" have the same double meanings as in English : suffering (via dolorosa and crucifixion of Christianity), and love, enthusiasm, etc.

It is true about all our horror films! I think maybe what people are perceiving as horror or creepy is not the little girl at all, but the paradox of all the weird elements around her - which is just the kind of thing commonly done in those horror movies! ;) I didn't feel that myself when I first saw it, I had more of a surrealistic feeling. Then the way the music abruptly stopped and was replaced with the heartbeat, then Dimash & his soprano part...that was what I found most eerie. If anything was a little scary for me, it was the woman's loud speaking part, and of course "hell" in the background! Wow, Krutoy & Kudaibergen - such GENIUS!!!!

As someone who isn't from a religious background although I was taught about different faiths but all to probably only a surface level. I took away from the performance the focus more on life will throw everything at you from the innocence of your very young days to the manic moments of your adulthood and your passion (I took as drive) is what will carry you through the pain and torment through to the beauty and love of life. That's just from a non religious side though. I certainly recognise the religious connotations to the performance, I honestly thought of the paintings as more of a trace through human history, that the human experience has been a mix of torment and joy throughout history and that some turn to angels to find comfort but that the beauty of your life is something only you can find. Hope I've not said anything daft and apologies if so.

I think that this song allows multi-interpretations. As an historian, I see here the reference to the Renaissance period - with all these pictures, Latin language and musical religious context. This is what Renaissance was about - this is still time when Church prevailed in everyday life, but the art forms were deeply focusing on a Human Being and his/her capabilities. This is a time of great artists, musicians, painters, composers, inventors, poets, writers... whose works of art continue astonishing people through centuries. And certainly, there are undercurrent interpretations of the song...

Thank you Caleb for your reaction and as always, super analysis. The woman was shouting - "Cross and delight, your passion!" I would like you to read the discussion at one of the Italian clubs. I think it deserves to be revealed to everyone who is looking to get the meaning of the song "PASSION" This is the translation of the discussion and interpretation of the song in DK Dimash Italian Dears Club with permission from Dears - Monica Segato and Elisa Sabbatini Echelon - (I find it Awesome !!!!) Monica Segato - Damn! I listened to it again! This is unbelievable! A muddy, unclean, sinful passion that makes you go through hell! At the beginning, the set design shows lost souls torn by the fire of sin. Then it's a clean touch. A touch of childlike innocence. And here is the contrast with the overwhelming excitement, transparent and healthy. The words are the same so that people understand that in the same person and in each of us, good and evil live together. Always connected and parallel. Fantasy. This is not a simple song, and you cannot listen to it while walking with a dog or running, wow .......! This is a work of art! Once again congratulations to Krutoy but above all congratulations to Dimash Elisa Sabbatini Echelon - Great! Now it’s all clear if you connect with the images on the screen! the little girl represents an angel who came to bring love, and immediately after Dimash destroys hell with his voice and opens the door to heaven for the angels! the eternal struggle between good and evil! Cross and delight! Monica Segato - the latest image is impressive! Dimash himself becomes an angel, as he is often called! what to say? Really a masterpiece! I knew it! I knew it! And it couldn't be sung except in Italian! What better mental combination than Dante in his Divine Comedy! And then we are (meaning Italy) the homeland of opera and art! I didn't know that the image that gave the background to the scenography connected to the Divine Comedy but I had imagined it! And Dimash ... oooooooh Dimash, dear friends ... it's PARADISIACO! (from Paradise!) Elisa Sabbatini Echelon - This boy is really a “gift of God” who came to us with his angelic voice in order to defeat evil and bring love!

Thanks for the prompt response. You correctly appreciated the epic work. This is a masterpiece of I. Krutoy and Dimash equally. The mysterious little girl brought innocence and a feeling of lightness and light into the overall gloomy outline of the cantata. It reminded me of Rembrant’s painting Night Watch (Amsterdam), where a little girl appeared among the gloomy, warlike musketeers as a bright spot in the darkness. The performance of this song is fantastic, he is being improved with every song.

Gee! What a profound and smart analysis! It's not even a reaction - this is much more, my dear Australian friend... At first, many foreign reactors do not understand why there is a little girl there, but it seems to me that for Russian listeners (I am Russian myself) this is an obvious symbol of our SOUL. She always remains clean, like a child, despite all the stormy intricacies of our lives. "Passion" for Russians it's both emotional thing, but also we say "passion for work" (it's more a devotion to smth in a positive way) and at the same time in Russian Orthodox Christian meaning "passions" are our sins (so we should struggle with our passions). But we don't have to hate them at the same time 'cause the struggle strengthens our souls. And the drama of this song, its intensity and deep meaning of the lyrics simply could not do without this image of an Innocent Girl (our Soul who nevertheless will rest the same forever as it is a Divine part of each of us). Note that woman from the choir (dressed in black with very sex appeal make-up crying about passion with increasing intensity of her voice - she represented maturity and emotional passions in a seething ocean of life ... and then the little girl’s appearance on stage - it's а sharp reminder to us "Remember you still have your SOUL inside - the REAL and ALIVE PART OF YOU. So nothing is lost while you remember this". BRAVO to this great song and brilliant performance of Dimash! It made me revise my life and introspect a lot of hiddem things inside my mind on an emotional level... Cheers from Moscow!))

As an Ethics' teacher, I've found this song as an example of how passions drive our behavior. One of my reference authors says that Ethics is the "government of passions", so what I interpret from this song is how passions drive you in life: will take you to do good or to do evil. But passions are not "good" or "evil" by themselves because they are ambivalent, it's our decision what to do with those. Therefore, this may be both "Croce e delizia" (cross/torture and delight, which is what the lady in black sings, BTW), but it all depends of ourselves what way we choose. Buddhism also picks up this conception of passions as the sparkle of our actions and that is our task to choose what pattern we are going to follow. So, Dimash and Krutoy seem to keep that ecumenical spirit

I always enjoy your reactions, Caleb.. and I find your interpretation of this song very interesting. THANK YOU! My take is different, you see I'm of Italian descent so understand the lyrics perfectly and in my opinion the english translation doesn't really deliver the true meaning of the song. The passion Dimash is singing about is, in my opinion, the one special passion each of us has in their heart, our very own and unique gift , that something that we're supposed to nurture and follow because it's our very own passion.. even if everything around you can be deceitful and will often hurt you...don't be afraid, follow your heart and be who you're supposed to be. This is, in essence, my take on the song. It gets me very emotional, I get really tearful when I listen to it as I can relate so much with what he's singing about

Pain, suffering...the wrong turns we make in the beginning trying to find our way. The madness it can cause. The haunting of our minds and yes souls. Once again internal and external with the world as a whole. War, famine...destruction. The woman and the girl....madness and torment. Well, I hear the announcer also recognise Igor. I assume that the text, because it is Italian is by the same poet who authored "Ogni pietra." -- Your comments, Caleb, are so very meaningful, as they always are. -- I'm not Christian; actually I don't confess any institutional religion, but I'm a firm believer in God, just like you are. I see the choral nature of the beginning. The background seems to be Dante's Inferno. It seems the lyrics suggest the crucible we are all, as God's children, sent here to suffer through and overcome. The discordance of the Passione Temptress seems to bring the performance into discord. Then that child that brings order to chaos. Then Dimash and his absolutely angelic trills and thrilling high runs. Then as the angel comes down and banishes the inferno, Dimash knees in supplication. Good grief. I believe because of the redemptive nature of this piece, that the passione represents suffering. You have nailed it out as you've watch it. I had to watch it so many times to understand what you deduced immediately. Great reaction, as always Caleb. You are a wonderful analyst.

The song, Dimash's performance, and your reaction are great as usual. But I wish that the lipsyncing lady weren't involved in this. Unfortunately, in certain occasions, even Dimash is "asked" to lipsync, especially in Russian tv shows or even some public events when he sings Krutoy's songs. Perhaps the audience doesn't understand that it is lipsyncing, but the cameras catch it. Even if it is because of perfectionism it doesn't look nice. Fortunately Dimash is singing live in here. And I love what he does with his wonderful voice and talent on stage. I didn't see that angel falling until you point it out, and that was awasome :) Thank you Caleb for your insightful analysis.

Hi Caleb! I haven't been on here for alittle while. I've been super busy. But great response. This song is utterly amazing! There are so many layers and underlying meanings. This is a very deep, motivating, encouraging song. And he of course his voice was magnificent, but I think him and Igor wanted us to hear the lyrics. That's why it's translated on the song on his page. Truthfully this song is a masterpiece for so many reasons. So brilliant! A masterpiece!❤❤❤❤❤❤
