The story behind "Ikanaide" : written metaphorically as a plea for a loved one not to leave, it actually describes the pain of an actress that had to go into exile. True story : Yoshiko Yamaguchi was born in China, hid her japanese heritage under a chinese name (Li Xiang Lan), became very famous. After WWII, her heritage was exposed, she was arrested, accused of being a spy, and sentenced to death. She was ultimately cleared of charges, but was advised to leave the country, as she risked being lynched. The song metaphorically describes her pain in separating from China and her chinese name. The song is about Yoshiko Yamaguchi, a Chinese-born Japanese actress during World War II. She hid her Japanese heritage under the name Li XIanglan. She became famous in China. However, once the war was over and she revealed her identity, she was accused of being a spy and she was deported back to Japan and didn't go back to China for many years, as it was forbidden at that time. Ms. Yamaguchi did return to China in her later years as the Japanese Parliamentary Vice Minister of Environment. This song is saying goodbye to her Chinese name Li Xianglan. The Melody of Ikanaide is actually from one of his previous songs - I believe it's 'Autumn Strong' - which was written by a Japanese composer Koji Tamaki - for/about a Japanese woman who, as an actress, had to hide her heritage and sang under the name of Li Xiang Lan
