I like the highly embellished and agonizing depiction of love and yearning, along with unrequited love, grief and pain of "Fado Português". My favorite song is "Aranjuez, mon Amour" from Amália Rodrigues. And Lisa Gerard is a living legend contralto. For "Know" and "Hello" (and maybe next songs...): These "mellismas" and "riffs" cames from old Turkic tribes and Seljuks, Ottomans... This technique named "makam" or "mugam" and very hard. (İndia countries were under the dominition of Turkic Babur Empire more than 300 years. Arabic countries were under the dominition of Ottoman Empire more than 400 years. They were learned -little bit- this kind of styles from Turks. ) Sufi music a small part of makams. Also Tuvan throat singing "khoomei" is different antic Turkic style. Mr. Kudaibergen used "khoomei" singing technique in "Sinfull passion". You can hear it from the all Turan group. Tuvan throat singing (Khoomei,xöömei in Tuvan) is one particular variant of overtone singing practiced by people in Turkic Tribes (one of them Tuva), Mongolia, Inner Mongolia and Siberia. Dimash's father explaned it. Consequently, the source of "riffs and runs" is from his own culture. Makam: A musical braid in Turkish Music in which a variety of sounds come together and complete. It is used in singing, healing the illness and praying. For example : Azan (the Muslim call to ritual prayer, typically made by a muezzin from the minaret of a mosque) is recited with "15 different makams" just in Turkic countries. I am 70 and I marvel at the fact that since discovering Dimash by serendipity, my girlish feelings do not match the elderly face I see in the mirror. I certainly have had many Favorite Singers over the years, but listening to Dimash made me realize no one ever evoked such emotions piercing my soul like Dimash did/does. I kept thinking how fortunate I am to have witnessed this phenomenal once in century voice and personality, really, he’s the total incredible package, before I died. It bum fuzzels me that there are people who don’t like/appreciate him.
