DiMarzio Relentless Pickups

Музыка

As with the Relentless P pickups, DiMarzio removed all the hard edges from the standard J Bass pickup and added an arch to the top of the pickup to bring the sensing coils and pole pieces closer to the strings. These improvements increase the dynamic range and make active circuits unnecessary.
The Relentless pickups incorporate Neodymium magnets and produce 70 percent more output than traditional passive pickups, and they’re dead quiet. DiMarzio expanded the mid-range punch, adding snappy highs and precise lows. These pickups have a broad magnetic field so you can even bend notes without volume drop out.

    Heads up to anyone getting the relentless set or the model J set. They are not single coils, they are humbuckers, it is recomended to use 500k pots with them, they are very dark, and with 250k pots sound very muddy and woofy. I learned that the hard way.

    Good to know! So also all the noiseless pickups should take a 500K ? also the Bartolini dual coil ?

    @@Nick_garcia-bs4 I only have experience with the seymour duncan Apollo, EMG JHZ, Model Js, and the relentless Js, the dimarzio are the only sets I needed to use 500k pots with. They are much hotter and much darker, they sound like full humbuckers. While the other mentioned noiseless sets sound like traditional single coils.

    Love seeing all these new pickup videos. If you do another set of DiMarzios then I'd recommend Relentless vs 60s or just demonstrating the 60s by itself. Keep up the great content.

    I put some in my old battered MIM jazz. Sounds awesome for rock. Loud and fat. My only issue is that because of the curve, there is not much for my thumb to rest on on the neck pickup.

Pure Tone Full Contact Jack. Wired with Gavitt 22 Gauge Vintage Style Cloth Covered Wire. It’s perfect for the mostly old style punk and doom/sludge metal I play.

    Billy Sheehan helped with these pickups, they’re based off his Relentless P-bass pickup. The ramp built into the pickup is one of the best ideas ever, along with Dimarzio’s amazing sound… it’s hard to beat the Relentless series pickups.

    Granted you can adjust the pole pieces, but the pickups should match the radius of the neck at the heel. The individual bridge saddles should match the radius at the heel as well.

    Adjustable pole pieces should be mandatory in bass pickups. But 70% more output? Nah...

  • @marcblum5348
    @marcblum53485 ай бұрын

    I simply do not get, why +70% output is a good thing. To me it is a con. When switching basses, the whole gain structures of my pedal board and preamps need adjustment. Overdrives and auto-filters have to be adopted, it's a p.i.t.a. Same with active basses and their infamous high outputs. WHY ON EARTH? This is not old school guitar playing where you need to drive the preamp of a vintage Marshall amp. This is bass. Yes, yes, yes, bass guitars have volume controls. But this is not reproducible and exact als "volume full open". I would prefer if all manufacturers of pickups would stick to a standard output level and preamps would stick to a unchanged output policy.

    Glenn Fricker has several videos where he PROCLAIMS that people are fools for buying new pickups. He says it is all "hype" and does not make any difference in tone. All the tone come from speakers. He boldly proclaims that pickup manufacturers sell "voodoo" and it is all "marketing hype designed to line the pockets of pickup manufacturers."

  • @sparella

    @sparella

    6 ай бұрын

    That's a misleading summary. His claim is that different guitar pickups of a given construction style generate very little tonal difference after being highly distorted in metal, so the higher value purchase is speakers, which do differ greatly from one another. He then supports the claim with evidence.

  • @benburnett8109

    @benburnett8109

    @@mossy723 You'd have to ask Glenn. Depending upon what day it is, he has a myriad of excuses for the tonal shift. His best excuse is that "people misunderstand what he is saying." or "he never said that, people are putting words in his mouth." Sometimes he will say something like "he's an engineer, not a guitar player." The one thing he's never done is admit that he is fundamentally wrong about pickups having no effect on tone.
