Very helpful, for years I have been trying to incorporate diminished chords into my playing. Gypsy jazz in particular is very good as it incorporates this sound a lot. Thank you for simplifying the process.

Goede videos Christiaan! Gr. Rob

Great video. But how did you know what dim arpeggio do play over the D7? Like I can't just start the pattern from the D note if the chord is D7? Is it always a major 3rd distance from the root of the dominant chord? Why?

  • @ChristiaanvanHemert

Thanks. On D7 these dim arpeggios work: F#dim, Adim, Cdim, Ebdim

In you think of a C7, starting a dimished chord at E (maj 3rd from C), will add E, G Bb and D to the C, wich ends up as a C9

Great video! Is there a reason why you don't go to the left as you go up? Like, in A7 if you go 5, 4-7, 5, 3-6, 5, 3-6 starting with the 2nd finger on the 6th string A? Or 5, 4, 2-5, 3, 2-5, 3 starting with the pinky on the sixth string A? Is this a bad habit for Gypsy?
