Switching from traditional to digital reminds me of some mangas that would have those really awesome color pages from time to time. It's not really jarring, it's kinda like a treat.
Super sorry to hear about the kitten! It's always sad to lose a loved pet. But I'm happy for you for buying a house and having your own studio! Regarding traditional vs. digital comic pages, it sounds interesting to have prologue done traditionally, kinda reminds me of manga when the first chapter is colored, and you can see the strokes of the markers, but the rest of the manga is this super clean b&w pages.
Making the prologue traditional would be so cool especially if it takes place in a different time period! It sounds like a nice atmospheric separation and your style shines through every medium you use so it wouldn’t be abrupt or strange at all. Switching between traditional and digital is also a natural part of what you do all the time so why not include it!
With the switching mediums in your comic, maybe it happens only when during a flashback, memory,… where everything seems less defined, almost kind of like peaking into a memory that’s blurred out and distant from reality.
I think doing just the chapter covers or the first 3-4 pages in traditional art would be really unique! And being able to knock out pages quickly in digital format would be a huge plus overall. I wish you the best! And I’m so sorry about your kitten.
Guess I watching this at work 😂
regarding traditional vs digital it would be really cool to switch between them but *with prupose*. Like you could make all the scenes in the past (I know your prologue is "in the past" but I'm also including potential flashbacks in the storyline) could be traditional while the normal comic could be digital. You could also mix the two, make some of your scenery (maybe stuff in the "old house" or something tied with the past) traditionally and then paint the characters in digitally so it has the *disjointed* ominous feeling to it. There is a lot of potential and possibility mixing the two mediums!!
I really think it would be visually enhancing to have the prologue in traditional medium (especially if it takes place in the past) and then maybe having a black page in between the prologue and then what would be the first official chapter of the story to help with the switch from traditional and digital styles (i.e. past and present/future). Also, if there are flashback and memory scenes, it'd be really cool to have that option to go back and forth between traditional and digital to further express where these scenes are taking place. This might ease your indecisiveness to use both medium.
Hello! I am so happy to be this early! So sorry about your cat
I love the inking process ❤
Welcome back!! Love seeing your videos.
Congrats on the new home! I can’t wait to see your own personal studio🤩
I’ve just pre-ordered your book, can’t wait to get it and look/read through it!!💙💙
Super excited about the video! You are such a huge inspiration to me lately, and your videos encouraged me to continue my art studies! The next 22 minutes will be a bliss~
Love the book plate! I do have a preference for vintage looks and I'm always amazed at how you create your borders, literally makes me drool 🤤 I'm so happy that you're going to have a "real" studio, and I'm looking forward to that dark academia aesthetic (I'm also a big fan of it). I actually know what is like to work in a cramped space, and it's frustrating, honestly. I'm going to make some changes to my own studio, too, like add another desk and remove some of the forniture that was in the room before it became my studio. Also, so sorry about your kitty. 😢 I know some people don't consider much of pets and say it's too much to be grieving for them, they clearly never had a pet. I still miss my latest dog who passed away prematurely a few years ago, because she was just perfect and I know nobody, human or pet, would be ever able to replace her. I still want a new puppy, though xD
so much work to do, so little time so I feel you in needing to catch up on projects. As always, your art looks so nice. I need to do an 'art supplies inventory' and check on materials that need to be trashed. Looking forward to seeing your studio
This is super fabulous drawing my friend.. you are very skillful ❤
new subscriber here! Just so pleased for you moving into your first home. Just sending big positive vibes love your channel and your style.
Love the bookplate, and congrats on the new house! I know this is a weird thing to focus on from the video, but you mentioned Victorian wallpaper. If you are in an area that the Home Depot ships to, they have a Victorian wallpaper that incorporates skulls into the design that might be up your alley. If it's not your thing then that's obviously totally fine. :p Thank you for sharing another video with us!
loooove the idea of the novel being mixed media, sounds really interesting, but I agree that doing the prologue traditionally might throw some people off
Do you have any advice on building line confidence? I can sometimes spend an hour or more on a sketch alone because I spend so much time undoing and redrawing lines. And do you use a stabilizer?
me encanto
Hey, I just had a question more about characters with long hair. Do you find it hard to find poses for them? If not any tip?
18:23 to 18:25 , i believe that’s halftone right? How did u do that, is that a brush or u use image material to apply to it? Im looking for it for a while now and couldn’t get how they do it .
oh no poor kitten😢 good luck on the house move! i think having a different style for the prologue helps separate it from the rest of the comic
How were you able to do the screen tone brushes in Clip??? :O
🌘wow🌓
