For getting rid of the white backgrounds, he's using "Color Range" in the selection menu. It lets you use the eyedropper tool to select specific colors. In his case it was white.

But since I discovered you guys, I have learned new tricks that help me make my Daz images look a bit better when it comes to merging rendered images and HDRI. The most interesting thing about this video is how much has changed in respect of doing this kind of work in the two years since this video was uploaded. I can't remember the last time I used the Magic Eraser or Magnetic Lasso tools because I have a snobbish superiority regarding such crass tools, and yet we see how effective they are in this video. All the same, they have become irrelevant since then with tools like Remove Background, and Select Subject working exactly like a magic trick. And that's before we start talking about Generative Fill, the Remove Tool, and Firefly. I guess it's good that it has made image manipulation so accessible to relative newcomers to Photoshop. Although, if I am entirely honest, I do resent it a wee bit.

There's some more comments suggesting this is Color Range, which it clearly isn't. What is confusing me is the icon we see above the document window @1:12 which is a black eraser with a sort of explosion behind and above it. I have never seen that, but it has to be some sort of Magic Eraser variant. I'm feeling kind of daft now, because I am far too advanced to have anything so crass as an automatic eraser tool in any of my workspaces, but that was killing it! Is it a Mac icon? The UI looks like Windows to me. We do see the eye dropper at times, which spring loads with the Alt/Opt modifier, but I can't see how that helps? I am not a fan of Blend If because it leaves aa halos, even when splitting the slider, but I am wondering why he didn't use it in this case with the background appearing to be full white? It's also a totally destructive workflow which would irk me. Heck, we have all seen a glitch or two later on and been glad we can fix it with the layer mask. Anyway, I'll carry one watching, and see what the next thing is to get under my skin.

what an awesome composite! only thing that bugged me about this is that the sky is cloudy, the foreground lighting is soft, but the shadows on the roof are hard so it doesn't look quite right. i also noticed the crow has light on its face but it's not facing the moon which is the source of light.

Honestly the best option for any stock photos or 3D pngs is Envato though.. at least you can rotate them etc... brushes... website templates, video templates, tutorials, everything. That's what I am getting myself for Christmas with the money that I made for side projects starting out. Hopefully it speeds up the process because I spent entirely too long looking for the right assets that are decent quality and commercial use. So I can see that helping saving a shit ton of time which means I will finish faster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so worth it guys! You get so much more than what the others offer. I am paying the upfront year plan to get a cheaper deal and get it over with. Costly upfront but over time it's better than spending 30 a month. 198 for a year (16.50 a mo) isn't that bad considering if you look at individual asset costs you'd spend a lot more so it's worth it. Especially if you use it everyday like I will. Currently I am doing a DND map for someone and I am not going to keep going on it UNTIL I get it. I don't want to backtrack so I am gonna save myself the stress.

I'm going to go against the tide here. Real feedback. It's always nice to see you guys work, but I'm not sure how much I got out of it. Watching someone else work while you guess didn't really teach much. I think the most instructive format is the speed art narrated by the actual artist. Take it for what it's worth.

practice, practice, practice. following some tutorials and watching photo manipulation speed art will help with absorbing the right techniques but overall just figuring stuff out by yourself is key. at one point or another you get a feel for it. just open up photoshop and start.

I agree with them but I want to add something:I realised 70% of photo manipulationing is about putting correct lighting and shadows. Lights and shadows are super important. Pay attention to those and make sure you apply everything on the videos to your project. You can't learn much just by watching. Always practice and make bad stuff, until you make something good.

Awesome work apart from 2 things bothering me :( . The reflection of the house in the water (not the same, but I understand that it is very hard and time consuming to make it the same). And the left gate. There is the bottom right corner of the left gate that is floating, the swirly bit. Maybe it's magic, and I'm wrong.

it kind of reminds me of cooking shows where all of the prep work is done before hand and then they act like the recipe only takes 15 minutes because all they have to do is put things together. It's impressive but, every asset this person opened up was already clipped out. it would have been nice to see how they clip out complex trees and gates
