Definitely saving this for later. I really really wish they simply gave the new releases a backlight out of the box because it is absolutely the most obvious design improvement and it's easy to do

I disagree rechargeable battery that puts them monsters on “nap” mode for the duration of the charge would be the best quality of life/irl convince feature
Wow that's awesome! I do admire your dedication and patience doing this mod. Nonetheless I do have some ideas to enhance the performance and ease of installation: 1) If you're using a light diffusing sheet to enhance the visibility of the screen then maybe it's better to push the LED a little farther right of the screen and then tape the diffuser in the space that was occupied before by the plastic "wall" you trimmed to make the LED fit. Additionally you could use electrical tape to cover the LED side facing the front side of the device to prevent light leaking through the shell. 2) As you were able to remove the plastic frame located behind the LCD then maybe it's possible to use a SMD LED instead, they're square shaped and flat so they could be mounted directly behind the background sheet. And they're cheap too! 3) Having heat shrinking insulation is great to prevent the wires from moving or shorting out, however it's highly recommended to use solder alongside that method to extend the reliability of the circuit. 4) The way the switch is installed in this implementation makes me nervous because the width of its "shell" could bend the logic board downside if you don't perfectly trim the back half of the case. There are pretty simple conductive touch sensors like the ones used in the IPS kits for modding Game Boys that could be a nice substitute for the one used here. I'm aware that you followed a previously reported methodology and made this video in response to a request, but if you're interested in keep modding other V-pets then maybe some alternatives are worth a shot. Best regards!

Can you make a tutorial?
Still weird not hearing "Welcome back trainers", great video tho boss
Not a perfect video BUT because of your mishaps you made me realize it's not that hard to do this. Imma try this myself! Thank you so much for your video!
Thank you for this tutorial 👍🥰. So cool
Well thanks to you and holey truth I’ve had great success finally have a v pet with light i just need to buy a better rotary sander and wires and BAM ill have more back lite v pets
That was a crazy amount of work but well worth it
That desk pad is sick!!
This was awesome.
If the paint is rubbing off then I'd suggest getting a varnish for it. Some matte clear krylon would seal it in. Just for the shells.
Im not a fan of the extra switch. I do remember a guy on the discord making it so hplding B would turn the lights on/off.

I would prefer the switch. You'd drain the battery faster with it activating every click of the B.
Nice Poke Ak!
My suggestion is use smd Led in mobile phone screen and smaller toggle switch . There is a small coated copper wire 0.1mm that suitable for the Led . Btw , love your work bro !
Tamers you meant :p you inspired me to try this mod again!
Know this is two years two late for you to see this, but on the off chance you do can you do a rechargeable battery tutorial? My best friends birthday is in a few months and he LOVES digital pets, so I’m making him a fully custom (lights for notifications, backlight, picture background, custom color using polarizing film and even Digimon themselves) a rechargeable/strong battery battery would do wonders, don’t mind if I jeee to make a new back case.
Thanks for the video! How long does the backlight battery usually last you?
Where did you get that awesome mat? Love the sprites
Out of curiosity do you have to remove the back ground on it? Or is it to thick?

If you're looking to put glow-in-the-dark tape you will have to remove the background screen. if you're looking to just put in light the background can stay
neato :B
I added a backlight to my Digimon X and now the LCD is hard to see, only can be seen at a certain angle, what did I do wrong?
Ugh.. the buttons. Been there.
Mounting from the side looks like crap imo. Saw another vid of a dude mounting it basically on the top of screen and came out much better. Should def try it next. Theres a plastic tab that needs to be sanded down a bit

You want to stay away from top/bottom mounting. Many of the devices connect to other devices via top/bottom such as the D-Link to phones/computers
