Digging Treasures: Metal Detecting In A 1740's Homesite

Ойын-сауық

This is the beginning of a most awesome metal-detecting adventure. Jim and I secured permission to search the yard of this 1740s homesite and the existing 1790s Shenandoah Valley home. This home was built on an original Lord Fairfax grant and is located in the lower Shenandoah Valley of what was the colony of Virginia. With this particular permission, we agreed to give the multi-generational land owner the finds that we might make from around the house. We also were granted permission to search the remainder of the 300-acre farm.
About Aquachigger:
I like to make videos that promote my lifestyle of outdoor adventure, metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed. I keep my KZread "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.

This is a great permission, and the findings should be fantastic. We agreed to give the landowner the things we found in the yard but not on the remaining 300 acres. I hope you enjoy the video, and I hope you think it deserves a "like" and "subscribe". Special thanks to all of my supporters over on Patreon! Hi Beau. The unusual Brick bond pattern is because the brick is double thickness but no cavity gap. The end-on brick bonds both layer together. It helps to stop the splaying due to the weight of the roof trusses. It is very British although it is called a 'Flemish Bond' in Virginia. I looked it up just to make sure I was correct.

Oh wow!!! About 20 years ago I got to detect a house from about 1812. It had never been detected before. The new owners let me do it no prob. I started to find some very old coins, some VMI Civil War buttons etc. The next day we came back, the owner had put up a sign that said "no metal detecting" lol. I guess he didn't like that we actually found some stuff.

Good finds.

Aloha Chigg, That small piece of RR track looks the size of mining rail track. It's the size of some I got from an ancient brick yard in Des Moines 50 years ago to use for my catenary arch pottery car kiln. Flat cars and track were from the drying tunnels ovens between the factory and enormous coal fired kilns.

i have the coin version of that chicago columbian exposition from 1893. It was the first coin minted in America that had a historic figure on the face side which was christopher columbus. The face side was designed by barber and the tail side was designed by morgan. That exposition medallion you found could be designed by morgan as well, might be rare. good find
