My only issue with 1.2 was there wasn't really any documentation so aside from generating a terrain, I could barely get the decimation working. I really hope the documentation is more fleshed out for 2.0.

Probably not, Phyronnaz the main dev is notoriously lazy about doing documentation. It's been this way for years now.

Going through this vid a second time, but slowly, is really helping me with creating the VP2.0 world. Tons of useful info here! I wish the 2.0 documentation was as useful, lol More examples are needed with the 2.0 download. That would help massively.

I never understood why more games don't use Voxel terrain. Games like Space Engineers, Wurm Online, and Minecraft proved its potential forever ago. Imagine if Rust, ARK, or Sons of the Forest used this!

Lack of documentation and steep price tag for the pro version puts people off I guess. Majority of indie devs use unity as well, which limits the users even more.

Voxels are more taxing as compared to the more efficient standard pixels, and so hardware has typically moved mainly to support pixels. That combined with much the software just not being around quickly makes it a lot more difficult to work with as compared to pixels of whom, again, have decades of both hardware and software built around it. Wish it did have more though, the novelty of voxels has always been really cool.

  • @JoshuaGerlach

@@uCatsby oh, from my understanding voxel terrain renders the same as everything else it's just the pre render calculations that get complicated. I think it's taxing on the servers? Having to relay the updated terrain mesh Everytime something is manipulated. I definitely don't know enough about this though.

That's one very strange way of pronouncing "math". I live amongst a load of toffs in surrey (probably the highest density of toffs in England🤣), and they don't even say that word that way. On the Voxel Plugin front, I am now very, very close finishing this vid, and have implemented and documented everything Mr. Marth has given us. All looking great! Once I am finished, and massive thanks to this vid, I will then figure out how to get this to generate the world I want and then I'll add it to my game. This video is a must watch for anyone messing about with 2.0

Man, this goes right into my '20 year project' of making 100% procedurally generated worlds/games. Where *ever* model is procedural and unique, every texture procedural. I already have a lot of work done towards 'animation quality' procedural humanoid and procedural buildings w/ interiors. The file size in insanely small. For the humanoid, base file is 40Meg, and each additional unique humanoid is only ~400k, so 1000 completely unique models would have a file size of 440Meg, with "infinite resolution" textures, and poly count of the models is irrelevant to game file size. And that's if you wanted 1000 unique characters that were the same for each player. If you wanted them generated randomly for each player, it'd just be the 40Meg. Combine my procedural assets with your procedural world building... 1 click can generate a fully populated procedural world... throw in some AI generated scripts to generate quests and story... 1 click to generate a unique AAA quality game of any genre in minutes. Currently in the solo-dev mode while saving $$ to self-fund the project. ^_^ kzread.info/dash/bejne/gIWDo6-torPYgJs.html

"Orders of magnitude shorter" I had to laugh. But seriously... this is obviously a great addition to swift iterations for landscape artists and game developers. However, the results are not that impressive (in my view) and lack any real-world applications to capture / create something more realistic. And lacks a 'wow this is impressive!' factor. The feedback from your community is mixed after reading reviews of the plug-in. The "core - tech" so to speak of being able to access such things as fast manipulation of graph / adjustments to mix up such things as brush result to be more unique per stroke, might be a great time saver, but is that the actual representation of any unique selling point or fundamentals / products' offerings? Does that justify the (business model) price of the Product? Some harsh critique? Maybe but if you wanted some constructive criticism then here it is... lower the price!!! At least find a way to not appear to rely upon an aging business model of manipulating user-base to pay for product code developments - through too early releases etc. Look at some of the feedback re your last V. Value add to the Art and Development community in new innovative ways. Be more humble in the way you present your presentations. As, sorry to say, the presenter's ego is lacing this product demonstration in a way that (in my view) is irritating. Apologies for expressing my first impression(s). I'm sure you are a nice guy... but saying you're not taking calls but for only "business" enquiries, when you are hitting big-time in the pockets... of Indies is kinda making me look at the business-model of the company as a bit sick.

  • @GordonSeal

"the presenter's ego" yeah this has always been a problem with Phy (the main dev), he can't take any criticism and will react hostile if you call out real problems of the plugin or how he handles it - especially when it comes to his lazyness in doing documentation.

Although to directly answer you, no not always and it's not about that it's about self identity and removing any doubt someone might have, allowing someone to comment about that person using the correct pronouns.
