Digable Planets - Where I'm From

From 1993 Debut Album: "Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space)"...(Click "show more" for artist info)...
Digable Planets is a Grammy Award-winning American Alt Hip Hop group based in New York City, composed of Ishmael "Butterfly" Butler (from Seattle), Craig "Doodlebug" Irving (from Philadelphia), and Mary Ann "Ladybug Mecca" Vieira (from Washington, D.C.). They were backed by Silkworm, who later embarked on a solo career under the name King Britt.
Digable Planets' fusion of jazz and hip hop received excellent reviews and solid sales with the release of its debut album, Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space), in 1993, which was certified gold by the RIAA. The album's lead single, "Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)," in 1994 became a crossover hit, peaking at #15 on Billboard magazine's singles chart, earning gold certification by the RIAA, and winning the Grammy award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
Its second album, Blowout Comb, was released in 1994 (see 1994 in music). The novelty of the group's jazz/hip-hop fusion had passed, leading to disappointing sales. The trio soon broke up due to creative differences, as well as the deaths of both of Ladybug's parents due to unrelated illnesses. However, a retrospective album Beyond the Spectrum: The Creamy Spy Chronicles was released in 2005, which included unreleased recordings.
The Planets played at BB King's in Times Square, NYC on 10/8/2008 and announced that a new album would be released in 2008.

Now you know why we say 1987 to 1996 was THE GOLDEN ERA OF HIP HOP! Don't get me wrong the early 2000s were great. But it wasn't exactly like that classical era. If you want to really know what Hip Hop is, you have to go back to that era. And you will enjoy these INCREDIBLE TALENTED ARTISTS of that time. Now Hip Hop today, is all about hype and not about talent.

Listening to this as an adult, it's like I'm listening to brand new music! There are SO MANY references to the Nation of Gods & Earths! That's what's up! At one point The Nation was running hip-hop. That's when it was amazing. They created the formula for success.

Tribute to the Archie Bell and the Drells classic, the "Tighten Up", reminds me of summer days listening to the radio on the way out to the lake. Those summer days, outta class, seemed to last forever. Sincere love and respect to this incredibly creative and talented trio.

Very interesting you mention Archie bell and the drells tighten up..yes that's a classic...now as far as this sample it seems to take from both of them.archie bell came out before kc so I think that's the core.however the slow tempo is what kc did so that's what this song is taking from.archies is just faster in my opinion. Anyway,Very good information u shared and it promotes good conversation 👍
