Different Type of Hernia Surgery Symptoms and Recovering Part2 by Dr. Iraniha
At times, the content of the abdominal cavity that protrude through the hernia defect could get trapped in there and cause incarceration or strangulation of that structure. This unpredictable condition places the patient at significant risk and requires emergent surgical intervention. Due to the possibility of this unpredictable complication and the fact that hernias never heal spontaneously, they need to be repaired when they are diagnosed.

Amazing, educational, thoroughly explained, I’m feeling thankful and much more at ease... had a robotic bilateral inguinal and bellybutton hernia repair, about 3 weeks now, still some soreness but much much better... had a hysterectomy several years ago, gut feeling says it derived from this previous surgery.. thank you, I now have a much better understanding of the process and recovery, awesome 👏🏻! Blessings 🙏🏻

I had open surgery on inguinal and umbilical hernias. The pain was intense 2 days after surgery and the pain meds helped. I am 5 days after surgery and still have pain but I only use pain meds before I go to bed.

Excellent approach to the subject. Your lecture allowed me to understand the types of hernias, procedures and recovery. The most striking point made was that a hernia that presents without pain or discomfort prior to any surgical intervention needs to be carefully monitored by the patient. Do not be fooled into believing that you do not need a diagnosis made. Locate a surgeon who specializes in hernia repair and take action.

Ten days ago I had right side inguinal open mesh repair along with an old umbilical hernia I've had for years (open no mesh). So far the pain has been handled on Ibuprofen only and minimal issues. I have been avoiding all lifting and exercise but am careful to walk around the house as much as possible. I was very active and hope I can get back to my daily exercises at some point. I wonder if waiting 6 week will minimize risk of recurrence. Because I did open mesh, the surgeon could not check the other side. So I hope I dont have issues there as well. Great video. Thanks

I m nearly 6 weeks post surgery for a epigastric fat hernia just above the umbilical cord. I was never given any information on recovery time, how to sleep, what to expect healing wise. My stomach is still swollen I had open surgery. I still sleep on my Back, I don’t know when I can sleep on my side? I get discomfort in the evening after my meal and I still can’t wear a wired bra as it starts to feel uncomfortable during the day.

He didn’t talk about non mesh. Shouldice just does non mesh using their technique and do mostly inguinal. So not sure why he said you can’t really do non mesh for inguinal. Absolutely you can and the results are very good. I’d rather non mesh then plastic patch

anything that increases pressure within the abdomen plus a weakness in the abdominal wall - which you have - will lead to a hernia over time. But you have to decide what is more important for you - your quality of life and doing what you enjoy or health that may or may not happen

Is it better to put the mesh on top or on the bottom of the muscle? I have a very large incisional hernia at the point of my ileostomy reversal. The goal is that I lose some weight before surgery. The concern is the hernia becoming so large it will not fit into the abdominal cavity.

@@scotty1435 hello scotty. On July 19 2022 I had a right inguinal hernia repaired at the shouldice clinic in Toronto. One week later. No major bruising. No infections. No more pain meds. They rarely use mesh. 1 in maybe 100. They did not use a mesh on me. They have highly skilled surgeons who are properly trained and an outstanding support staff. If you can, do look into this clinic. They are specialists and ranked number one in the world for non mesh hernia repair. Their success rate is close to 100 percent. I have absolutely no regrets about my choice. I can't believe it's only been one week post op. Ask your surgeon about the shouldice technique. It's a miracle .
