There can be subtle change in the grip. You hold the neutral grip, but, when performing backhand shots, just extend your thumb on your forehand rubber, it excels the feeling on the backhand side

Nice video again! I still forget to switch the grip during matches. At the training lessons it is easier to remember.

A lot of players do have slightly different grips as you have noticed. The key is that you should not have such a big change that you get caught out when switching.

An interesting topic once again! There are some players out there with completely different FH/BH grips. For example, Dima Ovtcharov is at the extreme end of the spectrum, he rotates the blade pretty much 90 degrees between some shots and he's doing it quick enough. But he's what you call a 'trained professional', so do not try this at home : - ) Watch his racket in this rally: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o6h9p6pqYb2voJs.html

Yes and I think he does that to generate an extra kicking spin which chinese player do with their own rackets.

I've been playing for several years now with a windshield wiper grip where I move the bat in a similar motion as windshield wipers on a car when going from forehand to backhand.......I always strike the ball with the same side of the paddle regardless ...........just curious if this is a recommended or discouraged grip.........ive been playing so long with it I don't think I could ever switch

This is called the seemiller grip named after a famous American table tennis player. He certainly used it to perform at a very high level but it is extremely uncommon. Here's a discussion about the grip: www.pingskills.com/table-tennis-forum/semiller-grip

It shouldn't take you long to switch between fh/bh grip during the point. Look at a player like Ovtcharov for example, he has a massive difference between grips during the point, and even uses a 4th grip for bh pushing (Service grip, fh grip, bh grip, push grip) The time you use during your backswing/getting into position to play the next shot should be spend to swap to either fh/bh grip, but of course you will not always have time for that. :D
